PITTSBURGH – The Dukes won nine individual events and both relays to propel them to a 164-136 victory over Marshall on Senior Day at Towers Poll.

“I was pleased with how the ladies swam today,” Head Coach David Sheets said. “Our continued topic of conversation has been race execution and focusing on the small things that can make us better.  Each week of practice and the last two meets the team has continued to focus on the details.  We (Morgan, Eddie and I) are extremely happy with the work the ladies are putting in and how they are starting to execute their swims in meet situations.”

Duquesne was led in the pool by a trio of multi-event medalists in Orla EganHayley Taylor and Mendy De Rooi.

Egan won both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:28.36) and the 500-yard free (5:07.93). Taylor hit the wall first in both the 100-yard backstroke (56.50) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.81), while De Rooi claimed the title in the 50-yard free (24.19) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.38).

De Rooi also helped both the 200-yard free and the 400-yard medley relay teams edge out Marshall by less than a second in both heats. The team of De Rooi, Sydney ShermanLeah Reisker and Hanna Everhart posted a time of one minute, 36.81 seconds to win the 200-yard freestyle relay. De Rooi also teamed up with Everhart, Haley Scholer, and Madison Dickert to post a time of three minutes, 51.63 seconds in the 400-yard medley relay. Marshall came in second at three minutes, 52 seconds even.

In addition to being on both relays, Everhart was also successful in the pool on her own, picking up a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of one minute, 54.42 seconds.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Marshall University swimming and diving team dropped a narrow 164-136 decision to the Duquesne Dukes on Saturday.

“Our first segment of the meet we were flat,” Herd swimming and diving head coach Ian Walsh said. “A couple races got away from us early. With that being said, the team did a nice job getting back into the meet following the break. We took a talented Duquesne team down to the wire and was really proud of the grit they showed.”

“There were some standout performances today on both boards and the pool. Kailee (Payne) walked away with her first collegiate win along with her first Zones cut. Our divers did a great job as a group, scoring huge points for the meet. Eszter (Laban) had a really gutsy 200 Fly performance following her 1000. The 100 Free was big event for us, Klava (Katayama) leading the charge on that. Paige continues to be a force for us in both breaststrokes.”

MU won had five first-place finishes in the meet. Paige Banton took both the 100 (1:05.19)
and 200 Breaststroke (2:20.16) in the dual. Eszter Laban won the 200 Butterfly (2:06.33) as Klava Katayama took the 100 Freestyle (53.30).

Kailee Payne picked up the first victory of her career in the 1m Dive (269.20).

“We talked about taking the momentum of this last dual into our training and final meet before conference. The staff is excited to get back into our routine and move through the next two weeks.”
