Danish Swimmer Suspended For Positive Test After Winning Danish Open

FINA announced this weekend that Danish swimmer Frans Johannessen has been hit with a three month suspension from the Danish Doping Board, which began on May 12, 2013, for a positive test of the substance Terbutaline at the Danish Open.

On March 28, 2013, a swimmer Frans Johannessen (DEN) was tested positive to the substance Terbutaline (Class S.3 Beta-2-Agonists) following a doping control test conducted with the occasion of the Danish Open in Copenhagen (DEN).

The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark’s Doping Board imposed a sanction of 3 months’ ineligibility on the athlete starting on May 12, 2013.

Johannessen tested positive on March 28th, 2013, which is the day when he won the 200 free at the 2013 Danish Open in a 1:49.79.

Johannessen, who turns 21 today, was not included as a part of Danish Swimming’s new “Great Danes” program, despite before this positive test being one of Denmark’s brightest male talents.

Turbutaline’s primary mainstream use is as an anti-contraction medication to delay preterm labor for up to 48 hours.

It can also be used to treat short-term asthma, and is a bronchodilator, which increases airflow to the lungs.

Well it is perfectly understandable that he would want to delay contractions . They are awful.
