The final day of action transpired at the 11th Asian Aquatics Championships with the nation of China exerting its dominance once again.
Gong Zhenqi, just 15 years of age, gave China the gold in the women’s 200m fly. The teen posted a mark of 2:09.97 as the sole swimmer of the field to delve under the 2:11 barrier.
Japan’s 16-year-old Manami Miyamoto snagged the silver in 2:11.32 and Thailand’s 20-year-old Kamonchanok Kwanmuang bagged the bronze in 2:12.83.
As for Gong, her best-ever performance remains at the 2:07.28 she notched at the 2024 Chinese National Championships to rank as China’s 13th-swiftest performer in history.
China’s Wang Gukailai nailed a time of 54.27 to earn gold in the men’s 100m backstroke.
Taipei’s Mu Lun Chuang was next to the wall in 54.45 while Srihari Nataraj of the host nation also landed on the podium in 55.23, good enough for bronze.
China’s additional individual gold came at the hands of Li Jiawei in the women’s 100m back.
Li stopped the clock at 1:00.51 to beat the field by over a second.
Japan’s Misaki Kasahara secured silver in 1:01.60 and Thailand’s Mia Millar rounded out the podium in 1:03.56.
Additional victors included Huy Hoang Nguyen oof Vietnam winning the men’s 800m free in 7:57.58 and Haruno Tanimoto of Japan taking the women’s 400m free.
Kuan Hung Wang of Taipei clinched the win in the men’s 200m fly in 1:56.63 last night.
At the conclusion of the competition, China indeed found itself ahead of the competition in the overall swimming medal table, collecting 33 pieces of hardware including 28 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze.
Japan earned 18 medals, including 5 gold, and Hong Kong ended the competition with 13 medals, including 3 gold.
