The media got to enjoy the pool at the 2025 World Championships, putting together media relays for some fun competition. Among the highlights includes a 24.78 split from Australian Olympian Cate Campbell.
Alright here it is folks.
The results sheet with split times from our media relay race.
Australian legend Cate Campbell with a blistering 24.78. I finished with a lifetime best 36.81 despite the worst entry of my career. What a day. What a blast. pic.twitter.com/dfeRcCPMWc

Campbell posted to her Instagram story saying, “Haven’t swum in 14 months. 1 shoulder surgery. 1 knee surgery. split 24.78 in the media relay…should make a comeback?”
Campebell retired after the 2024 Australian Olympic Trials where she was 7th in the 50 free in a 24.76 (flat start) and 9th in the 100 free in a 54.27. Her lifetime bests of 23.81 in the 50 free and 52.03 in the 100 free are from the 2018 Pan Pac Championships when she won gold in both events.

Also highlighting the media relay was Elizabeth Beisel, who represented the US at the international level. She last competed at the 2017 World Championships. Primarily a 400 IM and 200 backstroker, Beisel split a 27.62 in her relay. She took to her Instagram story to say “I am officially a sprinter.” She had posted that her goal was to go sub-30.
Beisel’s relay also consisted of Bobby Hurley, John Mason, and James Gibson. The four swam to the relay win touching in a 1:48.68.

Come back Cate Campbell
Beisel with a 0.07 changeover!
No surprise to me given she still looks jacked after being retired for over a year – good onya cate! Absolute relay legend for us aussies!
I’m actually not surprised. A 50 is short enough that really excellent world class technique can compensate a lot for a lack of sport-specific fitness. And she’s had several months to finally let her body recover from a really long elite career where a lot of stuff hasn’t has a chance to fully heal until this point.
Cate Campbell is super naturally talented.
She swam 24.9 in textile as a yo in 2007. No other 14 yo girl has swum anywhere near 24.90 ever since, in rubber or textile. At 15 yo she beat Nathalie Coughlin in 100 free at Santa Clara.
I always thought that if Cate had swum under great coaches like Michael Bohl, she’d have accomplished more.

OMG – she pulls so much water! I miss her swimming!
What the hell Cate😂 That’s a competitive time!
Pretty quick time for Beisel!
Off topic but does anyone know how to enter a 27.62 50 free split into the Swimulator and get the converted Men’s 100 Back time?
Beisel on the US men’s medley relay lead off lfg.
That’s super impressive lol
