Cal Men Maintain No. 1 Ranking In Latest CWPA Varsity Polls

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of California remains at No. 1 in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2022 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Week 11/November 16 Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer CollegesFordham University and Princeton University continue as unanimous No. 1 picks in the Division III, MAWPC and NWPC rankings, respectively, for another week.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the MAWPC, NWPC, Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), SCIAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2022 MEN’S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 20 (WEEK 11/NOVEMBER 16)

The University of California enters the conference championship week at No. 1 in the Week 11/November 16 National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

California (99 points) maintains a three point lead over the University of California-Los Angeles (96 points) with the University of Southern California (90 points), Stanford University (86 points), the University of California-Davis (79 points), Long Beach State University (75 points) and University of the Pacific (69 points) following at No. 3-to-7, respectively.

Princeton University (64 points) acquires sole custody of the No. 8 position with Pepperdine University (63 points) cracking the Top 10 at No. 9.  The University of California-Santa Barbara (56 points), which tied Princeton at No. 8 last week, slips to No. 10.

The University of California-San Diego (46 points) and Loyola Marymount University (45 points) both rise one place to No. 11 and 12 with the University of California-Irvine (44 points) moving to No. 13.

San Jose State University (33 points) surpasses Harvard University (32 points) to take over at No. 14 and drop the Crimson to No. 15. Santa Clara University (23 points) and California Baptist University (21 points) exchange the No. 16 and 17 slots, while St. Francis College Brooklyn (13 points) moves in front of Fordham University (8 points) and George Washington University (8 points) to complete the Top 20.

2022 MEN’S VARSITY DIVISION III TOP 10 (WEEK 11/NOVEMBER 16)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues at No. 1 in the Week 11/November 16 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points) lead runner-up Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (92 points) by eight points, while California Lutheran University (90 points) supplants Occidental College (85 points) to take over at No. 3.

Chapman University (81 points) and the University of Redlands (74 points) exchange the No. 5 and 6 positions, while Whittier College (69 points), Johns Hopkins University (68 points), the University of La Verne (49 points) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (45 points) complete the Top 10.

Fordham University continues to hold down the No. 1 spot in the Week 11/November 16 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Poll.

The Rams (100 points) retain a five-point lead over George Washington University (95 points), while Bucknell University (86 points), Wagner College (85 points) and the United States Naval Academy (49 points) hang on at No. 3-to-5.

The Week 11/November 16 Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five Poll remains unchanged from the Week 5, Week 6, Week 7, Week 8, Week 9 and Week 10 voting as Princeton University continues at No 1.

The 2018 and 2021 NWPC Champion Tigers (100 points) rate as a unanimous top pick, while 2016, 2017 and 2019 NWPC Champion Harvard University (95 points) stays at No. 2.

St. Francis College Brooklyn (90 points), Brown University (85 points) and Iona University (80 points) hold tight at No. 3-to-5.
