Smithfield, R.I. – The Bryant University men’s swimming and diving team fell to Rider by a score of 180-119 on senior day at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

“It’s never easy swimming two meets in two days but they stayed tough and fought hard. It was a great win for the women and a good opportunity for the men to prepare for what they have to compete with at MAACs”

Notes and Notables

  • Bryant started out strong with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay by the team of Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands)FuKang Wong (Johor, Malaysia)Zach DiGiaro (Middletown, N.J.), and Juan Gonzalez (Al Safa, Dubai) (1:33.97).
  • The Bulldogs earned their first top-three finish in an individual race from Tyler Stringfellow (Wrentham. Mass.) in the 1000 freestyle who placed second with a time of 9:59.95.
  • The Black and Gold got another second place finish from Matthew Mastroianni (Glastonburry, Conn.) in the 200 freestyle (1:45.32).
  • Mays continued the trend of the meet with a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.29.
  • Bryant found the podium again and earned second-place in the 200 butterfly by DiGiaro (1:59.54)
  • The Bulldogs got their second victory of the night from Andrew Allen (Bedford, N.H.) in the 50 freestyle (21.85).
  • The Black and Gold earned second and third-place in the 100 freestyle for the first time in the meet from Wong (47.83) and Allen (48.41).
  • Bryant won the 200 backstroke with Mays finishing ahead of the pack with a time of 1:50.44.
  • Wong continued his weekend dominance of the breaststroke with a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.92).
  • The Bulldogs earned third-place in the 500 freestyle with Mastroianni finishing with a time of 4:58.62.
  • Dom Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) earned his first top three finish of the meet in the 100 butterfly (52.42).
  • The Black and Gold earned another second-place finish in the 200 individual medley from Mays (1:55.55).
  • In diving Zach Vogel (South Easton, Mass.) placed second in the one and three-meter dives with scores of 238.28 and 247.20. Ben Prouty (East Lyme, Conn.) placed third in the same two events (226.43) and (234.36).
  • Bryant finished senior day with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay from the team of Allen, Scifo, Gonzalez, and Mastroianni.

  • The Bulldogs started the meet in great fashion with a first and second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain)Heather Wong (Ramsey, N.J.)Elin Svärd (Falun, Sweden), and Laurel Carey (Madison, N.J.) teamed up to win (1:48.94). The senior team of Lindsey Choate (Upper St. Clair Pa,)Eliza Brant (Hauppauge, N.Y.)Domenica Alcala (Cancun, Mexico), and Kayleigh Canavan (Cumberland, R.I.) placed third (1:51.45).
  • The Black and Gold then had a 1-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle with Alyssa Difiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) winning (10:40.41), Kelly Tiernan (Hartford, Conn.) placing second (10:57.33), and Claire Russell (Narperville, Ill.) placed third (11:08.61).
  • Bryant earned another victory in the 200 freestyle by Erin Doruska (Ankeny, Iowa) with a time of 1:55.25. Julia Larson (Wauwatosa, Wis.) finished third in the same event (2:00.92).
  • Senior Scifo won the 100 (59.70) and 200 backstroke (2:06.75). Fellow Bulldog Alexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla.) finished second in the 100 with a time of 59.71.
  • Wong and Canavan finished 1-2 in the 100 and 200 Brea stroke. Wong had times of 1:07.32 and 2:28.18 and Canavan had times of 1:07.96 and 2:29.93.
  • Bryant finished second in the 200 butterfly with Sammi Grenon (Cheshire, Conn.) posting a time of 2:10.87.
  • The Bulldogs added another victory with Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland) in the 50 freestyle (24.26). Carey placed third in the same event (25.15).
  • The Black and Gold had another 1-3 finish in the 100 freestyle from Rivera (52.64), Doruska (53.90), and Carey (54.90).
  • In diving Kyri Chambo (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished second in the one and three-meter dives with scores of 222.83 and 247.28. Gabby Ritzer (Sutton, Mass.) placed second in the one-meter dive (197.10).
  • Difiore won (5:11.88), Grenon earned second (5:18.79), and Meghan Donnelly (Sayville, N.Y.) earned third (5:30.47) in the 500 freestyle to finish the meet.

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team defeated host Bryant, 180-119, on Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

The Broncs (5-1, 2-0 MAAC) won their fifth straight dual meet, while the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-1 MAAC) dropped their second dual meet in a row.

Rider won 10 individual events and one relay on Saturday.

Senior Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) was dominant in the pool once again for Rider, winning three events. Carey won the 100 back (49.87), 100 free (46.68) and 100 fly (50.93).

Both sophomore Kyle Iorizzo (Norwood, NJ/Old Tappan Regional) and freshman Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross High School) won a pair of events. Iorizzo was the top finisher in both the 1,000 free (9:53.61) and the 500 free (4:49.97), while Racevicius won the 200 free (1:43.69) and the 200 IM (1:54.71).

Cole May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) finished first overall in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.52.

Junior Dillon Walles (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands High School) won both diving events. He finished first in the 1M with a score of 277.27 and he was the top finisher in the 3M with a total score of 314.65.

– The Rider 400 free relay of Webster BozzoJoe GewartowskiMatt Lequang and Daniel Bonge closed the meet with a victory.
Matt Lequang finished third in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:58.58.
– Webster Bozzo came in third-place in the 200 free at 1:47.49.
– David Rucci was third in the 100 back with a mark of 51.95.
– David Cooper ended up in second-place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.38
– Andrew Iannacone finished third in the 100 breast at 1:00.73.
– Dimitri Maldonado came in third in the 200 fly at 2:00.28
– Joe Gewartowski was second in the 50 free with a time of 21.86.

– Cole May also added a second-place finish in the 100 fly at 51.52.
– David Rucci was also third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.71.

UP NEXT
Rider returns to action on Friday, January 24, with a home dual meet against Lafayette that is slated to begin at 6:00 pm. Prior to the meet, the team will honor its seniors for their contributions to the program.
SMITHFIELD, RI – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team fell on the road to Bryant, 159-122, at the Chace Athletic Center Pool on Saturday.

The Broncs (1-5) suffered their third straight dual-meet setback, while the Bulldogs won their third dual meet in a row.

Rider claimed victory in five individual events.

Sophomore Kylie McMahon (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s) finished first overall in a pair of events. She won the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.82 and she also came in first-place in the 100 fly thanks to touching at 58.56.

Sophomore Kayla May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was the other swimmer to win for Rider on Saturday, as she came in first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.94.

Senior Meg Tomayko (Murfreesboro, TN/Siegel) won both diving events for the Broncs. She finished first overall in the 1M with a score of 246.30 and she was also first in the 3M with a mark of 251.63.

NOTES
– Kylie McMahon also added a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.78.
– Kayla May came in second-place in both the 200 free (1:55.50) and the 200 back (2:06.85).
– Olivia Iswalt was second in the 50 free with a time of 25.02.
– Maddie McSorley finished second in the 100 fly (1:00.36) and third in the 200 fly (2:13.84).
– Maeve Lersch ended up in third-place in both the 100 back (1:00.03) and the 200 back (2:13.19).
– Kyra Schwerzler was third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.48.
– Giavanna Lupi came in third in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.92.
– Kellie Quinn finished third in the 200 IM at 2:22.50.
