After racking up four quick wins in two days of competition (including back-to-back victories over Marshall), the Bowling Green State Falcons women move to 7-0 on the season in dual meets.
That already pushes them past their win total from the 2013-2014 season, with three meets to go against Akron, Buffalo, and Youngstown State.
Bowling Green defeated Mid-American Conference opponents Toledo 185-115 and Marshall 171-129. Marshall beat Toledo 168-132.

Bowling Green, Ohio – After a quick turnaround from yesterday’s meet, the Bowling Green State University swim and dive team has now won 12 consecutive dual meets dating back to last season, after defeating Mid-American Conference rival Toledo, 185-115 and Marshall, 171-129. Further extending its unbeaten streak, the Falcons have exceeded their dual meet win total from a year ago with the two victories at Cooper Pool Saturday afternoon.
“Today was a little mixed,” Head Coach Petra Martin said. “We had a lot of people who did a great job, stepped up and kept doing what they were supposed to. But, we had a couple that were a little bit off, which cannot happen when championships come. Everybody needs to deliver on every swim, so we’ll have to work on that a little more.”
BG led the entirety of the meet against Marshall, and was tied 18-18 with Toledo after two events, but never looked back after that, winning the next four out of five before the 1-meter diving program.
The Falcons finished with nine event wins, including a sweep in the 100 backstroke and a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle. BGSU also took first and third place in the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast and 200 freestyle relay.
Estela Davis, Daniela Carrillo, Kayla Effinger and Jordan Bullock finished first with a time of 3:51.46 in the 400 medley relay. BG also won the 200 freestyle relay with a team of Victoria Griffin, Sadie Ahlers, Anna Babinec and Effinger.
Davis led the team in individual victories, with three total. Her first came in the 100 backstroke and her last two were the 200 backstroke and 200 IM. In fact, the sophomore’s nearest competitor in the 200 backstroke was nearly four seconds behind her.
Griffin added a pair of wins, as she still remains undefeated in the 50 freestyle, swimming a time of 24.10. She also won the 100 freestyle with a 51.84.
Three Falcons recorded individual wins as well. Kristin Filby swam a 1:04.53 in the 100 breast, Carrillo finished with a 2:20.96 in the 200 breast and Franziska Wohlert continued her success, swimming a 1:52.78 in the 200 free.
Divers Rachel Perry and Kylie Bosco are also progressing nicely, according to Martin.
“They both have been learning a lot. [They have] new dives with higher difficulty levels and you can see that they are gaining more confidence. They’re doing what they are supposed to and I am really excited,” Martin said.
Bowling Green will be back in action at Cooper Pool Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. to face Akron, who was chosen to finish second in the conference, according to the MAC Preseason Poll. It will also be Senior Day for five Falcons.
Marshall Release
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall Thundering Herd swimming and diving team had three individual winners on Saturday, wrapping up its first meet in more than a month in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Herd defeated Toledo 168-132, but lost again to host Bowling Green 171-129.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman Madi Pulfer (Ottowa, Ontario), continued her strong event with wins in the 500 (5:04.54) and 1000 freestyle (10:21.57). Pulfer won her first event (the 500 freestyle) in Friday’s races.
In diving, sophomore Megan Wolons (Williamsburg, Va.) followed up a career high in three meter diving, with her first collegiate diving win in the one meter dive with a score of 229.20.
