Versatile swimmer Averie Hager will be joining the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, along with her twin sister, for the fall of 2026.
I am so blessed to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Notre Dame! First of all, I would like to thank God for His sovereignty and guidance throughout my life and His unfailing love. Secondly, I would like to thank my family for their unwavering support, my coaches for their guidance through this process, and my friends for their constant prayers. A special thank you to my twin sister; I couldn’t have come this far without you! Thank you to the coaches at Notre Dame for giving me this extraordinary opportunity. I can’t wait to be a part of the Notre Dame family! Go IRISH!!! 💙☘️💛 Eph. 2:8-9
Hager lives in San Antonio Texas where she attends Great Hearts Monte Vista High School. At the Texas 4A State Championships in February, she won the 50 free (23.02) and the 100 fly (53.85) both in new 4A record times.
In June, we ranked her as one of our “Best of the Rest” recruits in the sprint freestyle events thanks to her lifetime best times of 22.83 and 49.82 in the 50 and 100. She also holds a National Age Group Record as a member of the record holding mixed 4×100 freestyle relay for Streamline Aquatics, her club team.
At the 2025 Summer Junior Nationals, Hager qualified for the finals in the 50 free (16th – 26.28), 100 free (29th – 57.48), 200 free (18th – 2:03.45), 100 fly (15th – 1:01.56), 200 fly (17th – 2:15.26), and 200 IM (33rd – 2:22.47). Only her 200 freestyle was a best time. She also set a new personal best in the 50 free of 26.08 in prelims.

Notre Dame competes as a member of the ACC, and they finished 12th out of 15 teams at last year’s conference championships. Hager will be a huge addition for the team that is looking to move up the rankings, and could swim a variety of events for her conference lineup
With her times from last season, she would have been 5th in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle events, 3rd in the 100 fly, 4th in the 200 fly, 5th in the 200 IM, and 6th in the 400 IM. She still has another year in high school to improve those swims to conference scoring level and of the four people faster than her in the 50 freestyle on last year’s team, only one will still be there when she arrives next fall.
She will be joined on campus by her twin sister Jaylee Hager along with Ellie Bina, Caroline Mulrooney, Camryn Tilger, Renee Nealon, and Catie Brenneman
