Sam Wicks

Sam Wicks is a senior at Boise State looking to finish what has been an impressive college career on a high note. Sam was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and was the top recruit coming out of Alaska in high school. She specializes in both the backstroke and freestyle events.

 

Boise State Swimming

2014-2015

Ended her junior season by winning her first Mountain West Championship in the 400 free relay that set a school record with a time of 3:16.88. Earned All-Mountain West honors in the 100 back, 100 free, 200 IM, 200 and 400 free relay, and the 200 and 400 medley relay. Finished 2nd and set the school record in the 100 back and the 200 IM. Also placed 2nd in 3 other relays. Collected 17 first place finishes in individual events at duals throughout the year. Competed in 3 events at NCAA Championships placing 31st in the 100 back, 48th in the 100 free, and 36th in the 200 IM.

2013-2014

Capped off a successful sophomore season by competing in 7 events at NCAA Championships and earning All-Mountain West honors in the 100 back, 100 free, 200 and 400 free relays, and the 200 and 400 medley relays. Part of the 200 medley relay that broke the school record and finished 2nd at Mountain West Championships. Finished runner-up in the 100 back, 200 free relay, and 400 medley relay. Also placed 3rd in 400 free relay, 4th in the 100 free, and 9th in the 100 free.

2012-2013

Finished her freshmen year by scoring in three individual events and three relays at Mountain West Championships. Broke the school record in the 100 back and finished 5th. Also placed 10th in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 free. Picked up her first collegiate win in the 50 free against Denver. Set the Boise State freshman record for time in the 50 free. Set lifetime bests in 5 different events.

High School/Club

Attended East Anchorage High School where she was a 7 time state champion. Won 3 state championships in the 100 back and broke the state record her senior year by nearly 2 seconds earning her All-American honors in the 100 back and All-American consideration in the 50 and 200 free. Won Alaskan Female Swimmer of the Year 3 times on the club circuit and holds state records in the 100 back in both short and long course. Finished 5th at Western Senior Sectionals. Was a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and a member of the National Honor Society. Swam for the Northern Lights Swim Club under coach Ben Kitchen.
