John Mattern

John Mattern
John Mattern is a freestyle and breaststroke specialist from Aurora, Colo. After graduating from Cherry Creek High School, Mattern chose to attend the University of Georgia. He’s currently in his sophomore year, and is studying Accounting. Mattern is on the Bulldog swim team along with his sister, Jordan, who is a junior. Born Nov. 19, 1994 to Lyle and Sarah Mattern, he was a high school All-American and was a state champion in the 100 breaststroke. He swam for the Colorado Stars under Coach Todd Schmitz, who also coached Olympian, Missy Franklin.

University of Georgia
2013-2014
As a freshman Mattern competed at the 2014 SEC Championships swimming the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. He obtained career best times in each event. He was also named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

2014-2015
Mattern focused on the Georgia Invite where he went a best time in the 100 breaststroke.

National Competition
During his high school career at Cherry Creek, Mattern was a Colorado state champion in the 100 breaststroke, an event that he was named a high school All-American in. He also was a member of the 200 medley relay that broke the state record.
