Oakland Swimming and Diving is known for their long history of success in the pool, starting in the Division II days. In Division II, Oakland won 20 National Championships between the Men and Women’s teams. After Oakland moved up to Division I, the teams continued their winning tradition, being undefeated at the conference championships 16 years in a row. Oakland University athletes are also known as the Golden Grizzlies. (Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Athletics, 2015)
Jeremiah was born to parents Donald and Candice in 1994. His uncle, Rick, had convinced Jeremiah’s parents of all the benefits that come with swimming, so around age 11, he was signed up. In the beginning, Jeremiah dreaded swimming but he grew to love it.
At Holland High School, Jeremiah was coached by Don Kimble on the Varsity Swim Team all four years. He earned an individual State Champion title in the 100-yard freestyle at the MHSAA Division II State Championship his junior year. Jeremiah was also a member of two State Champion relays, 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle’s, at the same meet his senior year. He was also a major player on his team’s State Championship win as a senior.
2013-2014: As a freshman, Jeremiah earned spots on Oakland’s 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays at the 2014 Horizon League Championships, that finished first at the meet. Another highlight for Jeremiah was being a part of the first ever Horizon League Championship for Oakland University. Jeremiah also posted all lifetime-best times at the conference championships.
Jeremiah is coached by Andre Latour in the Sprint Group.
