Abe Astle, a member of Olympus Aquatics in Salt Lake City, Utah, has sent his verbal commitment to BYU for the fall of 2025. Astle was featured in the Best of the Rest section of our class of 2025 re-rank as an IM specialist.

The multifaceted talent holds four individual Utah high school records (200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 free, and 100 breaststroke), as well as a share of two Utah high school relay records (200 free relay, 400 free).
At the Utah 5A State Championships back in February, Astle took home a trio of titles, winning the 200 IM (1:46.01), 100 breast (54.95), and 50 free (20.08, lowering his state record from his prelims swim of 20.09). Aside from his 50 free record in finals, he had set new all-time marks in the 200 IM (1:45.56) and 100 breast (54.44, a lifetime best) in the prelims.
Recently, at the Utah Swimming LC Senior Championships (LCM), Astle set new lifetime bests in the 100 free (51.11), 50 back (27.20), and 100 back (58.64), 50 breast (28.81), 100 breast (1:04.04), and 200 breast (2:23.22).

Astle will be moving just 45 minutes North to Provo to join the Cougars, a men’s team that finished 5th at the 2025 Big 12 Championships (out of seven teams).
Astle’s best times would have qualified the championship final in the 200 IM, the ‘B’ final in the 100 breast and 400 IM, and the ‘C’ final in the 50 and 100 free.
Comparing his top times to last season’s BYU team, Astles’ 200 IM would have translated as the top performer on the Cougars’ roster. He would have been 3rd in the 400 IM, and his 100 free would have ranked him 7th.
The cougars’ class of 2029 includes Cristopher Strydom, Ben Hatchard, Lucca Ferreira, Dane Weber, and Josh Hart.
