MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State University swimming and diving team won on both the men’s and women’s sides in a co-ed meet with Eastern Illinois on Friday night at Lewellen Aquatics Center.

The women finished with a team score of 204-77 while the men won on a 180.5-113.5 tally. It was the first win of the season for the Cardinals.

Ball State started the night strong as the women finished first, second and third in the 200 Medley Relay. A team of Logan Ackley, Luke Nondorf, Alec Tuthill and Ben Andrew followed that performance with a win of their own in the same event.

The ladies once again swept the top three spots in the 200 Free with Sophie Bader coming in first, and Drew Weeks won the event for the men with Ryan Short right behind him.

Claiming the top three spots was a common theme for the women on the night as Anne Vormohr, Mikayla Dostall and Abbie McCarter finished in that order in the 100 Back. Logan Ackley claimed the event on the men’s side. The women secured another top three in the 100 Breast while Luke Nondorf won the event for the men. Katie Walker and Maryn Meldrum secured the top two spots in the 200 Fly.

On the boards, Hunter Ongay claimed victory in the one-meter dive with a score of 247.50 while Rachel Bertram won the women’s three-meter competition behind a 309.75. Rachel Smallwood took home the one meter with a 256.35 and Sean Wolfe secured the three meter with a score of 269.55.

Andrew had perhaps the most thrilling heat of the night as he narrowly claimed victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.10 to the second-place time of 2:01.18. Elizabeth Madison won the same event on the women’s side.

The Cardinals will be back in action again on Saturday (Nov. 3) when the women play host to MAC foe Akron. The men will compete next at Grand Valley State on November 17.
