Backstroke Swimming Ke Liye Complete Beginners’ Guide – Swimming By Sanuj

Backstroke ek aisi swimming style hai jisme aap peeth ke bal (on your back) swim karte ho.
Aapka face hamesha upar hota hai — isliye breathing easy hoti hai.
Lekin balance aur direction control thoda tricky hota hai.

Backstroke me:

  • Kick se body float aur move karti hai
  • Arms water ko pull karke propulsion dete hain
  • Body rotation smooth movement aur speed banata hai

2. Body position – sabse pehla step

  • Body flat aur horizontal rakho (jitna ho sake surface ke close).
  • Head fixed rakho, bas thoda chin andar ki taraf (na zyada upar, na zyada niche).
  • Eyes ceiling ya sky par rakho.
  • Chest thoda upar rakho aur hips paani ke surface ke close ho.

Tip: Agar hips sink kar rahe hain to kick speed thoda badhao.

3. Kick technique (Flutter Kick)

Backstroke me flutter kick use hota hai — same jaise freestyle me hota hai, bas peeth ke bal.

How to do it:

  • Legs straight rakho (knees thoda soft bend).
  • Kick continuously from hips, not knees.
  • Feet se chhoti chhoti quick kicks karo.
  • Toes thoda pointed rakho.

Common mistake: Log knee se kick karte hain — isse energy waste hoti hai.
Kick hips se karni hai, knee se slightly bend krte hai.

4. Arm movement – step by step

Backstroke ke arms circular motion me move karte hain, alternate (ek andar jab doosra bahar).

(1) Entry:

  • Hand straight paani me upar se aata hai (little finger first entry).
  • Arm shoulder ke line me jaaye, cross mat kare.

(2) Catch & Pull:

  • Jaise hi hand paani me jaata hai, elbow thoda bend karo.
  • Hand ko S-shape ya straight backward pull karo towards hip.
  • Forearm aur palm se paani ko peeche push karo.

(3) Exit & Recovery:

  • Jaise hi hand hip ke pass aaye, use paani ke upar le jao.
  • Recovery relaxed rakho — straight arm upar le jao next entry ke liye.

Tip: Arm aur shoulder ke beech ek rhythm banao — ek arm push kare to doosra recover kare.

5. Body rotation – backstroke ka secret

Backstroke me rotation hi smoothness aur power deta hai.

  • Jab right arm pull kare, to body slightly right side par rotate ho.
  • Jab left arm pull kare, to left side par rotate ho.
Isse shoulder strain kam hota hai aur pull deep hota hai.

6. Breathing technique

Backstroke me breathing easy hai — kyunki face paani ke upar hota hai.
Bas:

  • Normal rhythm me inhale aur exhale karo.
  • Har 2–3 arm strokes ke baad ek deep breath lo.
  • Face ko calm rakho, panic nahi.

Tip: Splash zyada ho to breathing me dikkat hoti hai — arm entry smooth rakho.

7. Coordination – sab kuch ek sath

1 Kick continuously chalu rakho.
2 Arms alternate motion me rakho.
3 Body rotation ke sath stroke sync rakho.
4 Breathing natural aur relaxed.

Ye chaar cheeze jab ek rhythm me mil jaayein — tab backstroke effortless lagta hai.

8. Backstroke drills (practice ke liye best exercises)

a. Kick Drill (with board on chest):
Back par let jao, kickboard pakdo aur sirf flutter kick practice karo.

b. Single Arm Drill:
Ek arm se swim karo, doosra side par rakho. Rotation aur pull feel karo.

c. 3-3-3 Drill:
3 strokes right arm, 3 left arm, phir dono alternate. Rhythm control ke liye best.

d. Head still drill:
Backstroke me head fix rakhkar swim karo — ye balance aur streamline sikhata hai.

9. Common mistakes aur unke solutions

Mistake Solution
Head bahut upar uthana Chin thoda andar, eyes sky par
Knees se kick karna Kick hips se karo
Arm entry cross karna Shoulder line follow karo
Splash zyada karna Smooth entry aur relaxed recovery
Straight body nahi rakhna Continuous kick aur rotation balance rakho

10. Advance tips (pro banne ke liye)

  • Thumb exit aur little finger entry perfect timing par karo.
  • Underwater dolphin kick master karo — push ke baad speed badh jaati hai.
  • Rotation timing ko arms ke sath perfectly sync karo.
  • Backstroke me turn aur finish ke liye “count your strokes from flag” karna seekho.

11. Final mantra

“Head steady, hips high, kick from the core,
arms alternate — glide through water like never before.”
