Avelyn Brown Announces Commitment To Wisconsin–Green Bay’s Class Of 2030

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Avelyn Brown, a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. She trains year-round with the Waukesha Express Swim Team and attends Catholic Memorial High School.

She confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:

I chose UW-Green Bay because everything just clicked…the strong academics and the perfect balance of an inclusive swim culture that truly values each student-athlete. From the moment I stepped on campus, under the guidance of Coach Alex and Coach Grace, I knew this was a place where I could push myself, feel supported, and grow into the best version of me.  I can’t wait for what’s next!

Brown’s target meets of the last high school season were the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 1 Sectional 6 meet and the WIAA Girls Division 1 State Championships, both held a week apart in early November.

At Sectionals, Brown walked away with a pair of fourth-place finishes in her individual events. She tackled the 100 free (53.94) and 200 free (1:58.20), with the former checking in as a season best. She also swam breaststroke for Catholic Memorial’s runner-up 200 medley relay in 31.15, as well as anchored their 400 free relay in 54.04.

Brown did not swim any individual events at State, but she did contribute splits of 31.23 and 53.01 on the aforementioned relays, with the medley relay taking 14th and the free relay securing 18th.

Her best times for her primary events all come from meets during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. She logged 24.30 for the 50 free in February 2023, 52.43 for the 100 free in January 2023, and 1:55.32 for the 200 free in February 2024. Her most recent PBs are 1:09.33 for the 100 breast from October and 58.93 for the 100 back from November.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 Freestyle: 24.30
  • 100 Freestyle: 52.43
  • 200 Freestyle: 1:55.32
  • 100 Backstroke: 58.93
  • 100 Breaststroke: 1:09.33
  • 200 IM: 2:12.67

Alex Lewis took the helm of the UWGB program in November 2021. He was able to hire a full-time assistant coach and a graduate assistant last season; in the first three years of his tenure as head coach, it was just him and a diving coach.

The UWGB women took sixth out of six teams at last year’s Horizon League Championships. A year prior, they finished last in the conference as well.

The conference meet scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, and Brown’s best time in the 10 free would have situated her 16th out of prelims and into the ‘B’ final. In the 50 and 200 free, times of 24.09 and 1:55.19 were required to secure a lane in the consolation heat. Furthermore, it took clockings of 58.03, 1:06.22, and 2:09.37 to secure a second swim in the 100 back, 100 breast, and 200 IM.

According to the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Schlegel’s career bests in the 50 and 100 free would have ranked her second. Her 200 free PB would have situated her fourth, her 100 back third, and her 100 breast seventh.

Junior Emily Allen led the way with marks of 23.35, 51.18, and 1:50.27 in the freestyles, the events Brown has historically focused on at major meets. Allen was 4th in the 200 free, 7th in the 100 free, and 9th in the 50 at the Horizon League Championships, but will be graduating a few months prior to Brown’s arrival on campus.

Brown joins Lindsey Schlegel, Hannah Tubbs, and Madeline Bichon in UWGB’s 2030 recruiting class.

The swimmers will arrive on a campus that has recently made several upgrades to its aquatic center, including a new $65,000 video board. The facelift at the pool comes amid other positive momentum for the NCAA Division I program, which included the reinstatement of athletic scholarships for the 2024-2025 season, four years after they were eliminated in a budget measure.
