Day 3 prelims at eh ASUN Championships were full of drama today. It started out with a fairly normal occurrence, as FGCU freshman Olivia Vecchio and Queens (NC) junior Haley Ross tied for 8th in prelims of the women’s 100 back, each touching in 55.47. That meant, of course, they would require a swim-off to see which swimmer would earn the spot in the ‘A’ final in tonight’s finals.

After swimming the 100 back prelim, Vecchio went on to race the 200 fly about 30 minutes later, where she came in 7th with a 2:03.86. That time was 1.13 seconds off Vecchio’s season best, however, she qualified for the ‘A’ final.

With one ‘A’ final appearance secured, Vecchio then had to get ready for the swim-off. Vecchio and Ross faced off in the 100 back once again, where they wound up in a tie once again. The times in that swim-off aren’t currently posted on MeetMobile, however, we know they tied again, because the pair had to compete in a 2nd swim-off.

This time around, the duo opted to race the 50 back, rather than the 100. In the 50 back swim-off, Ross got her hand on the wall 1st, touching in 25.74. Vecchio, in her 4th race of the morning, came in an extremely close 2nd, finishing in 25.78.

With the results now settled, Ross will be in the ‘A’ final of the 100 back tonight, while Vecchio will be in the ‘B’ final.
