Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Waterloo Swimming’s Harrison Tater has verbally committed to join the Arizona State men’s program as a part of the 2027 recruiting class.
I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Arizona State University. I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for all you’ve done to help me get here. Huge thanks to my Waterloo coaches, Coach Will, Coach Brooke and Coach Cole for making me the swimmer I am today. Special thanks to Coach Herbie and the rest of the ASU coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. FORKS UP!! 😈🔱
Tater raced five individual events at the Speedo Junior National Championships (LCM) this past summer. His best showing came in the 200 IM, clocking 2:07.89 to finish 39th. He also turned in respectable performances in the 100 freestyle (52.16, 54th), 200 free (1:53.52, 46th), 400 free (4:02.82), and 200 butterfly (2:07.01).
The Austin, Texas native nabbed a pair of short course bests at the Speedo Sectionals in Justin this past March, clocking 4:33.38 in the 500 free and 1:52.73 in the 200 IM.. Tater also made finals in the 100 free (46.24) and 200 free (1:41.49), finishing 36th and 24th, respectively.
One of Tater’s best short course outings came at the TXLA Jingle Bell Splash in December 2024. There, he swam a plethora of best times, including the 50 free (21.63), 100 free (46.23), 200 free (1:40.51), 100 fly (49.95), 200 fly (1:51.50), and 400 IM (4:05.29).
Best Times SCY:
- 50 Free: 21.63
- 100 Free: 46.23
- 200 Free: 1:40.51
- 500 Free: 4:33.38
- 100 Fly: 49.95
- 200 Fly: 1:51.50
- 200 IM: 1:52.73
- 400 IM: 4:05.29
The Arizona State men were victorious at last season’s Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships. Based on Tater’s best times, he would have finished 44th in the 200 free, 33rd in the 200 fly, and 36th in the 500 free.
Tater is just outside of scoring range for the Sun Devils at the moment, but with plenty of time still to develop and grow, Tater could find himself in a very valuable position for an already very complete and competitive Arizona State squad.
His event range with mid-distance free and some fly strength gives him some flexibility to fill in any gaps for the Sun Devils. With some further development, Tater could also find himself in contention for potential Sun Devil relays.
Tater joins Gavin Halusic, Ben Jaggers, Aidan Collins, and Thor Johannessen in the Sun Devils’ 2027 recruiting class.
