Arizona High School Sprint Champ Sam Fazio Commits to Georgia

Arizona High School State Champion Sam Fazio has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Fazio is coming off of a week where she won the Arizona Division I High School State Championship in the 50 free. Her time there, 23.2, was about half-a-second shy of her lifetime best that was done at the end of the summer in 22.86.

Fazio is an elite sprint freestyler, and a very good sprint backstroker as well. In yards, her best times are:

  • 50 free – 22.86
  • 100 free – 50.77
  • 200 free – 1:53.99
  • 100 back – 55.72
  • 200 back – 2:06.72

This already adds another Olympic Trials qualifier for 2016 for the two-time defending NCAA Champion Bulldogs, as Fazio has a best long course time of 26.15. In addition, Fazio and her Scottsdale Aquatic Club teammates Victoria Toris, Hannah Holman, and Amy Bilquist hold the National Age Group Record in the 200 meter free relay for 15-16’s. Individually, Fazio ranks among the 100 fastest 15-16’s of all-time in the 50 yard freestyle.

She joins a Georgia program that boasts three more seasons from the defending NCAA Champion in the 50 free Olivia Smoliga, plus two of the three fastest 50 freestylers in the SEC this year so far (Maddie Locus and Chantal van Landeghem).
