Anthony Bruno Named Fairfield Head Swim & Dive Coach

Anthony Bruno has been named the Head Coach of the Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs, as announced by Director of Athletics Gene Doris. Bruno joins the Stags with seven years of collegiate coaching experience including the past four seasons on the coaching staff at Iona College.

He spent three seasons as the Assistant Coach with the Gaels before being named the Associate Head Coach this past fall. Bruno helped direct new training programs that led to 19 individual records and 41 program records during his time at Iona. He also oversaw the academic progress of the student-athletes during a time in which the women’s program achieved the nation’s highest GPA in Division I.

“Coach Bruno comes highly recommended from some of the best in the swim coaching profession,” said Doris. “He knows the MAAC and has a reputation among its coaches for raising the level of his swimmers. We look forward to his leadership and future successes he can bring to our swimming and diving programs.”

The Southbury native also coaches at the Westchester Country Club where has been since 2014 working with all age groups. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Coach at Wesleyan University from 2010-2013 where he was an integral part of recruiting and coaching for the Cardinals.

At the collegiate level, Bruno competed for Springfield College earning All-American honorable mention twice as part of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay, while earning a degree in Movement and Sports Studies in 2009.
