Allison Schmitt took out the women’s 200 free just as hard as she did the 400 free. This time, however, with a little bit of a shorter race to hold on to, she finished under American Record pace, scoring a 1:54.40 – a new American Record.
That’s also the second-fastest swim in history and a new all-time best swim in textile.
Here’s the comparative splits to the old American Record: a 1:54.96 that she destroyed by half-a-second.
Schmitt ’09: 27.54 – 28.77 – 29.42 – 29.23 = 1:54.96
Schmitt ’12: 27.01 – 28.60 – 29.28 – 29.51 = 1:54.40
