Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Whitney Kane from Downingtown, Pennsylvania has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at West Virginia beginning in fall 2027.
“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at West Virginia University!! First, I want to thank God for always having a plan for me. I also want to thank all my coaches especially Coach Jamie, Coach Todd, Coach Owen, and Coach Snook for helping me become the swimmer I am today. I am also incredibly grateful to my family and friends for always supporting me. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Sydney, Coach James, Coach Brent, and the entire West Virginia coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to be a Mountaineer!”
Kane swims for Upper Main Line YMCA out of Berwyn, PA. She had a huge long course season and made the Y-National ‘A’ final in numerous events. Those included a 6th place finish in the 400 free (4:27.78) and an 8th place finish in the 200 free (2:07.76).
She is currently a junior at Bishop Shanahan High School and swam to a season best 1:52.32 at Districts at the end of February. She is the #2 seed in both the 200 free and 500 free at the PIAA 2A State Championships that are set for this upcoming weekend.
Kane’s Best SCY Times Are:
- 200 free: 1:51.46
- 500 free: 4:55.90
- 1000 free: 10:15.94
The West Virginia women finished 10th out of 10 teams at the 2025 Big 12 Championship with 409 points. Iowa State was 9th with 520 points while BYU was 8th with 524 points. It was the team’s 2nd season under head coach Brent MacDonald.
Based on her best times, Kane is an immediate impact at the conference level as her 500 free time would have made the Big 12 ‘C’ final. West Virginia had one ‘B’ finalist and one ‘C’ finalist in the event. It took a 1:49.33 in the 200 free to earn a 2nd swim.
Kane will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2031 along with Brooke Orner. Orner primarily specializes in sprint free and fly.
