Chris Guiliano wowed spectators in the first session of the Westmont Pro Swim, touching in 47.3 in the 100 free prelim. This prompted SwimSwam to look at the potential lineup for the 400 free relay this summer at Pan Pacs to see if a world record was a possibility. On paper, it most certainly is.
Team USA has known this for quite a while, and Guiliano speaks to that, saying the men have been talking about and eyeing the world record for 3 years now, hoping that soon they will finally put all the pieces together and take down the legendary mark from 2008.

USA should let Guiliano to lead off the relay. His relay splits are no better than flat times, so thats the reason. Second leg shoud swim by Patrick Sammon. In pan pacs, third leg is wide open. I think they should use the fastest from the prelim relay (Casas/Lasco/Hobson/Macfedden) as the third led. Then let the Alexy to bring the WR home.
47.20 (pb), 46.90, 47.30, and 46.60 WR
And Alexy can be way faster than that
Yes..let us give room for magin of error
Between saying and doing is a whole wide ocean between….
It’s on old record but 47.06 on average is insane. Would love to see this wr go down but I wouldn’t be suprised if it stands
The fast average is largely because of Lezak’s anchor. If Alexy can produce another 45 high or even 46 low split the average on the other three legs becomes very doable.
Another thing I just thought of. I think most believe that Guiliano has the 2nd best shot at making the Olympic Team in the 100 free. But, if he swins slower each round, he may not.
I’m curious who are the top HS Juniors/Seniors that could be in the mix in 2 years.
Guillano knows how to descend. He just went for the 100. in prelimsโhe said he wanted to give it a shot to go under 47. He descended his 200 and 50
I get that
My point is more geared to if he isnโt at/near his best, he may not make it.
47.3 isnโt far from 47.7 and 47.7 may not make it.
Hate to get all bobthebuilderrocks hypothetical BUT if you add up ideal splits this record is getting blown to smithereens.
To rectify this, I suggest a full University of Texas 400 FRR
Schooling (sexy and can compete as dual citizen as leadoff), future Turkish cosmetic tourists Hobby and Townley haas in the 2nd and 3rd legs. Finally anchored by a 2017 summer league legend the Anthony grimm reaper with a push off start in a 3 foot pool
Welcome back, Andrew!
Long time no see.

Leadership at all levels of the US is so cooked. Coaching decisions are the reason this WR hasnโt been smashed by now
That’s zilch. I’d be impressed if they had been talking about it for 15 years.
USA should break m4x100 WR in Pan Pacs this year.
It’s long overdue. Even AUS was close last year, and USA has much more depth.
USA 2021 relay from tokyo also went the same time as australia, where they so 46.6 anchor by zach apple
