Going into the NCAA Championships, Mulgrew will be seeded 3rd based on results this season behind Hoosier Zalan Sarkany (14:23.85) and Florida Gator Ahmed Jaouadi (14:25.14). This is extraordinary company for Mulgrew, who before today held a personal best of 14:48.26 from New England’s LSC Senior Champs in 2024; Sarkany and Jaoaudi are both 2025 World Championship finalists, and Jaouadi is a double World Champion.
This marked a fairy tale ending to a breakout meet for Mulgrew. He previously got 2nd in the 500 and broke the Ivy records in the 1000 with an impressive 8:38.01, putting him as the #9 fastest performer in history in that event.
Within the Ivy League, it represents a change of guard. Racing against outgoing Yale senior Noah Millard, the freshman took down Millard’s meet (14:34.72) and conference (14:28.43) records. Today, Millard took runner-up with a 14:41.76, but he’ll get another swing at the event in March. Last year, Millard placed 4th in the event at NCAAs.

Mulgrew and the Crimson placed 3rd in the Ivy League team race.

a video would be nice.
This year there are more 14:30 and under swimmers than ever. And then a very few 14:40s, they fall over to the 50s. Not as strong a crowd as last year.
