Friday night saw three new automatic NCAA qualifiers from the Big West Championships, increasing the overall number of NCAA qualifiers to seven.
After four swimmers earned NCAA qualifying times en route to their conference swims on Thursday, the Big West Championships had three more swimmers earn spots tonight.
Cal State Bakersfield’s Vili Sivec was the first qualifier of the evening, winning the men’s 100 butterfly in 45.91. This swim was three tenths off his lifetime best of 45.61 from last year’s Big West Championships, but it was two tenths under the NCAA standard of 46.11.
UC San Diego’s Asia Kozan earned a qualification in the women’s 200 freestyle, swimming 1:45.52 to come in just one hundredth under the standard of 1:45.53. her lifetime best stands at 1:45.15 from March of 2025.
Finally, UCSD’s Chloe Braun won the women’s 100 breaststroke in 58.95. This time was more than a second under the qualifying standard of 1:00.30, and is the first AQ swim we have seen come in under the 2025 invite time. Braun’s swim was about a two tenth add from the 58.75 she swam in prelims, which is currently the 17th fastest time in the country this season, and would almost certainly have earned her a traditional invite in the event.
Hawaii’s Karol Ostrowski also swam an NCAA standard en route to the conference title in the men’s 100 back, but since he already earned an invite, he has already been counted

I have very mixed feelings about this. 😭👏😭🙌
Shouldn’t Karol be on the list with a 2nd event (not count as another person but a 2nd swim)? Not sure if this would apply to any other swimmer at this meet.
It will be interesting to track how these ancillary qualifies perform against the pool of legitimate D1 qualifiers.
