For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Aibhlinn King has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Georgia Tech, beginning in the fall of 2027. She confirmed the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I am beyond thrilled to announce my academic and athletic commitment to Georgia Tech! I would like to thank my family, my friends, my coaches: @danderson63, @chandlerlewis2323, @gregbrostowitz, Caleb, Jenny, Doug, @nxlevelathletics, and my team @schroederswimteam for helping me and having my back through this journey!! A special thank you to Coach @mmargalis, @iago.mo, and @miles.simon_ for this amazing opportunity and for welcoming me onto the team!!! Go Yellow Jackets!
A junior at Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay, Wis., King has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with the Schroeder Swim Team, where she primarily specializes in butterfly, with sprint backstroke a secondary focus.
King is the reigning Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 2 State Champion in the 100 fly, a title she has now won in back-to-back seasons. This past November, she clocked 54.92 to defend her crown and break the 55-second barrier for the first time. She also placed second in the 200 IM with a near three-second personal best of 2:08.09. On the relay side, she helped Whitefish Bay defend its 200 medley relay title with a 24.36 fly split and win the 400 free relay with a lifetime-best 53.11 leadoff.
As a sophomore, she won the 100 fly (56.17) and finished ninth in the 100 back (59.25), and added relay-winning splits of 25.25 and 25.07 on the 200 medley and 200 free relays. Her freshman year saw her take fifth in the 100 fly (57.82) and split 25.72 on the runner-up 200 medley relay.
A two-time Winter Junior Nationals qualifier, King made her first appearance at the meet in December 2024, qualifying only for the 100 fly and placing 73rd in 55.73, three tenths off her lifetime best at the time. This past December, she made considerable progress, finishing 35th in the 100 fly with a lifetime best of 54.83. She expanded her schedule to include the 200 fly, where she placed 54th in 2:05.68, just over a second shy of her personal best. King didn’t wait long to take another shot at her 200 fly personal best, clocking 2:03.92 at last month’s SSTY 46th Annual A+ Meet to break 2:04 for the first time. She also broke 57 seconds in the 100 back for the first time, swimming 56.69.
After entering 2025 at 55.41 in the 100 fly, 2:05.73 in the 200 fly, and 58.83 in the 100 back, King has shaved more than half a second in the 100 fly, nearly two seconds in the 200 fly, and over two seconds in the 100 back in just over a year, making her a promising pickup for the Yellow Jackets.
In long course, King attended her first Summer Junior National Championships last July, placing 42nd in the 50 fly (28.32) and 51st in the 100 fly (1:02.45) after clocking a lifetime best of 1:01.61 at a club meet earlier that summer. More recently, she posted a 28.02 in the 50 fly at a dual meet against Elmbrook Swim Club, qualifying for this summer’s Senior National Championships for the first time.
- 100 Butterfly: 54.83
- 200 Butterfly: 2:03.92
- 100 Backstroke: 56.69
The Georgia Tech women, led by head coach John Ames, finished 13th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships with 465 points. At the meet, it took times of 52.69/1:58.69 to earn a second swim in the 100/200 fly, while 53.18 was required in the 100 back, putting King outside the cutoff in each of her top events.
On the team itself, King would currently rank third in the 100/200 fly and fourth in the 100 back. Factoring in graduations and current commits, she would hold those same rankings in the 100 fly and 100 back while rising to third in the 200 fly. With another full season to go before she arrives in Atlanta, the recruiting class is far from complete, but King looks to be in good shape to contribute in dual meets right from the start.
King joins Norah Smyth, a 23.4/51.3 sprint freestyler from Loveland, Ohio, as the only publicized recruits in Georgia Tech’s class of 2031. The program also has two publicized commits in the class of 2026 in backstroker Julia Pou (55.6/1:59.1) and 23.5/51.8 sprint freestyler Sophie Hamilton.
