Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sophie Hamilton has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Georgia Tech, beginning in the fall of 2026. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Georgia Tech!! First and foremost I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends who have been there for me every step of the way. To my SPAC family, these past 10 years have created some of the best memories. Super huge thank you to the Georgia Tech swim & dive coaching staff for providing me with this opportunity! And of course shout out to @iago.mo and my DASH coaches Lee and @itscoachj0nes. Go Yellow Jackets!!

A senior at Brookwood High School in Norcross, GA, Hamilton has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. She also currently swims year-round with Spartans Aquatic Club, where she primarily specializes in sprint freestyle.

Across GHSA State meets, Hamilton has made the 50 free ‘A’ final for three straight years, finishing sixth as a freshman (24.48), fourth as a sophomore (24.37), and second as a junior with her current best of 23.59, with a chance to go four-for-four at her final state meet in a few weeks. She also swam the 100 back at each of those meets; she improved from 28th as a freshman to 17th as a sophomore before making the ‘A’ final and touching sixth as a junior in 58.64.

Hamilton competed at Winter Juniors East last month, her first time qualifying for the meet, where she placed 107th in the 100 back with a season-best 58.88 and 125th in the 50 free in 24.12. Just two weeks ago, she swam at the 19th Annual Ralph Crocker Classic (January 16-18), a local club meet. There, she clocked her current best of 51.82 in the 100 free, her first time breaking 52 seconds, in addition to swimming a near-best of 23.71 in the 50 free.

She has continued to drop time each season, which bodes well for her trajectory once she arrives in Atlanta to wear the gold and white. Entering 2025 with best times of 53.79 in the 100 free, 59.29 in the 100 back, and 23.81 in the 50 free, she’s since cut nearly two full seconds in the 100 free, over a second in the 100 back, and just over two-tenths in the 50 free. Her newfound success in the 100 free could impact her decision to swim that event rather than the 100 back at her final state meet. If she had been at this level at last year’s meet, it would have earned her fourth place, and two swimmers ahead of her have since graduated, putting her in the medal hunt.

Beyond her individual success, Hamilton was part of, Hamilton was part of a mixed 200m free relay that set a new 15-18 National Age Group Record at the 2024 Georgia Long Course Senior State Championships. She teamed up with Zachary Sutter (23.53), Leyton Roe (22.73), and Abigail Heizer (24.73), splitting 26.93 on the third leg as the squad combined to swim 1:37.92, breaking the old record of 1:38.67 set by a slightly different group from her club in 2023.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 Freestyle: 23.59
  • 100 Freestyle: 51.82
  • 100 Backstroke: 58.06

The Georgia Tech women, led by head coach John Ames, finished 13th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships with 465 points. At the meet, it took times of 22.41/48.72 to earn a second swim in the 50/100 free, while 53.18 was required in the 100 back. Georgia Tech had only one swimmer score in sprint free at the 2025 ACC meet: current sophomore Nina Stanisavljevic, who placed 17th in the 50 free (22.13) and 19th in the 100 free (48.48).

On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Hamilton would have ranked 13th in the 50 free, 17th in the 100 free, and 12th in the 100 back. As she develops, Hamilton could contribute in dual meets and work her way into relay contention.

Hamilton joins backstroke specialist Julia Pou (55.7/1:59.1) in Georgia Tech’s recruiting class. The two should make for strong training partners over the next four years, with Pou’s backstroke expertise potentially helping Hamilton continue to develop in the 100 back.
