Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Julia Pou has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Georgia Tech, beginning in the fall of 2026. She publicized the news on SwimCloud:
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at Georgia Tech! Thank you to my family, teammates, and coaches who have supported me throughout this whole process and my swimming career, I wouldn’t be here without them. A special thank you to the entire GT coaching staff for this incredible opportunity! Go Jackets!
Top SCY Times:
- 100 Backstroke: 55.78
- 200 Backstroke: 1:59.16
- 200 IM: 2:03.73
Pou is currently a senior at Johns Creek High School in Johns Creek, Georgia, where she has been a member of the varsity swimming and diving team since her junior year. She previously represented Nation Ford High School and Myers Park High School, both in North Carolina, earlier in her high school career.
In addition to high school swimming, Pou trains year-round with Dynamo Swim Club. She primarily specializes in both backstroke distances as well as the 200 IM.
Her backstroke best times of 55.78 and 1:59.16 date back to local club meets in March 2024, while her 200 IM personal best was set at the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) 5A State Championships last February, where she won the 200 IM title and earned bronze in the 100 back.
Earlier in her high school career, she was a fringe finalist at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 4A State meet, making the ‘B’ final of the 100 back as both a freshman and sophomore, and the 200 IM consolation heat as a sophomore.
Beyond high school swimming, Pou has qualified for and competed at Winter Junior Championships in both 2023 and 2024. Her best finish came in 2024 when she placed 32nd in the 200 back, her first time cracking the top 50.
The Georgia Tech women, led by head coach John Ames, finished 13th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships with 465 points. At the meet, times of 53.18 and 1:56.25 were needed to score in the backstroke events, while 1:58.69 was required in the 200 IM.
On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, she would have ranked fifth in the 200 back and 200 IM, as well as eighth in the 100 back. With eight months to improve and several upperclassmen graduating, she’ll provide immediate help in dual meets and could become a key factor on the Yellow Jackets’ ACC roster if she chips away at her personal bests.
Georgia Tech had only one swimmer score in backstroke at the 2025 ACC Championships: now-senior Phoebe Wright, who finished 19th in the 200 back. With Wright graduating in May and the team’s other two primary backstrokers, Jillian Ferrari (53.20/2:00.68) and Vivien Rothwell (52.95/2:00.81), currently juniors, Pou’s development will be crucial for the program.
Pou joins a recruiting class that includes one other publicized recruit, 23.5/52.2 sprint freestyler Sophie Hamilton.
