West Virginia commit Roman Torres looks to be in fine form as 2026 approaches.

Committed to the Mountaineers starting in the fall of 2026, Torres won four events at the North Carolina YOTA Capital Classic a couple of weeks ago.

His most noteworthy performance came in the 200 fly, where he swam a personal best time of 1:45.61. Among 17-year-old boys, that time now ranks him 10th. In the 500 free, Torres won in a time of 4:31.36, shattering his previous personal best of 4:39.10.

Torres also swam personal bests to win the 200 IM (1:49.00), and was first in the 100 free (45.51).

Team-wise, the YMCA of the Triangle Swim Area Team swept the girls, boys and combined titles.

Other individual standouts:

• Jimmy Beeson, a BYU commit from Y-Spartaquatics, won four events in the boys’ competition. He swam personal best times to win the 50 free (20.33) and 200 free (1:38.79), and also won the 100 back (48.64) and 100 fly (47.35). Among 17-year-old boys this season, he is 12th in the 100 fly.
• William Rees from York and York County YMCA, a West Chester University commit, swam personal best times to win the boys’ 200 breast (1:58.62) and 400 IM (3:55.51). He currently ranks 11th this season among 17-year-old boys.
• Michael White, a 12-year-old from YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team, was first in six events, all in personal best times. He captured the boys’ 50 free (22.98), 100 free (49.62), 200 free (1:48.85), 500 free (4:51.20), 50 back (26.84) and 100 back (57.15). In the boys’ 11-12 age group, White currently ranks 3rd in the 500 free, 4th in the 50 free and 200 free, 5th in the 100 free, 6th in the 100 back and 7th in the 50 back.
• In the girls’ event, 13-year-old Lillie Dirito of York and York County YMCA won the 100 back in a personal best time of 55.19, and was 2nd in the 200 back in a personal best time of 2:02.16.
• Campbell Lange, a 16-year-old from YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team, was first in the girls’ 100 free in a personal best time of 50.67 and captured the 50 free in 23.39.
