Betlehem Reaps 800 Free Gold On Night 4 Of Hungarian SC Championships

2025 HUNGARIAN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2025 Hungarian Short Course Championships saw its penultimate night of action get underway tonight from Debrecen, with potential roster slots for this year’s European Short Course Championships on the line.

Earning yet another medal across this competition was 23-year-old Adam Jaszo, continuing his successful campaign with a victory in the men’s 200m back.

Jaszo stopped the clock at a time of 1:53.04 to get the job done, beating the field by over half a second.

David Antal earned the silver medal, hitting a new Hungarian National Age Record in the process.

Antal produced a time of 1:53.67 as runner-up, overtaking the previous age benchmark for 17-year-olds of 1:55.16 Adam Kovats put up in 2023. Anton Kocsu rounded out the podium in 1:53.82

The women’s 200m back saw Eszter Szabo-Feltothy get to the wall first, touching in a gold medal-worthy 2:06.57.

That effort represented the 6th-best outing of her career, one that boasts a best-ever performance of 2:05.63 from the 2023 edition of this meet.

Veteran Katalin Burian earned the silver this evening in 2:08.98 followed by Fanni Viktoria Kokas who bagged the bronze in 2:10.27.

22-year-old David Betlehem captured another victory, this time in the men’s 800m free.

Betlehem stopped the clock at 7:41.89 to handily defeat the field by nearly 7 seconds.

Mate Karpati reaped silver in 7:48.79 and Nandor Nagy rounded out the podium in 7:49.55.

Betlehem’s personal best remains at the 7:37.38 he nabbed two years ago; however, his effort this evening still checks in as the 4th-quickest of his career.

Additional Notes

  • The women’s 800m free saw Ajna Kesely secure the gold in 8:23.55, a time just outside the top 10 performances of her career.
  • Continuing his multi-medal-earning performances, Gabor Zomboni was too quick to catch in the men’s 100m IM, topping the podium in 52.74. That was enough to hold off Jaszo who settled for silver in 53.15 followed by Balazs Hollo‘s bronze medal-worthy effort of 53.55.
  • Panna Ugrai stopped the clock at 1:00.17 to grab the gold in the women’s edition of the 100m IM.

Zombori’s time in the 100 IM would have been a national record a month ago. Now it’s not even close. 🙂

This SC Champs was tragically slow on the women’s side. Even the 2 NRs were seriously weak. Fangli was a bright spot, and Senanszky’s 51 splits on the relays were nice, but that’s about it.
