WASHINGTON – The American University women’s swimming & diving team posted a 137-84 win over Howard University on Friday night, winning nine of 12 events in a dual meet against the Bison. The Eagles’ men’s team captured three individual wins among 12 events.
Notable Results
- Freshman diver Alex Way posted a PR of 274.50 to win the 1-meter diving event, a score that ranks fourth all-time in program history.
- Seniors Peyton Thurman and Maggie Fanning went 1-2 in women’s 1-meter diving, the only diving event contested in the dual.
- Sophomores Piper Crosby and Marin Priddy teamed up with senior Isabel McGovern and freshman Lucy Penna for a win in the women’s 200 medley relay in a time of 1:46.27.
- Crosby earned two individual wins as well, first taking the women’s 50 free in 24.12, and later winning the women’s 100 back in 57.11.
- McGovern posted her second win of the meet in the women’s 100 fly in 57.24, and Priddy earned an individual victory in the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:05.80.
- Junior Kate Williams went 10:35.61 to win the women’s 1,000 freestyle, while sophomore Luke Martens won the men’s 1,000 free in 9:59.34.
- Martens earned his second win in the men’s 400 IM in 4:07.27, finishing over five seconds ahead of second place.
- Sophomore Demetra Bicos won the women’s 400 IM by over 10 seconds with a time of 4:40.09, and earned a second individual victory in the women’s 500 free in 5:12.67.

WASHINGTON — Howard women’s swimming & diving team earned multiple event victories in a competitive dual meet against American University on Halloween Night in Burr Natatorium.
Freshman Alyssa Napier (Wilmington, Del.) made her season debut in the 200-yard freestyle and didn’t disappoint, capturing first place with a time of 1:54.49, nearly two seconds ahead of the pool. Mia Patton (Nassau, Bahamas) followed in third (1:57.07) and Iala Cropper (Rochester, N.Y.) in fifth to secure key points for the Bison.
Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.) continued her consistent campaign with a runner-up finish in the 100 fly (57.33), dropping more than a second from her previous best of 58.66. In the 100 back, Myeisha Sharrieff (Bermuda) claimed second place (57.51), cutting more than a second off her season mark of 58.89. Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.) added a third-place finish (59.54) as Howard placed two in the top three.
Sophomore diver Jordan Harrell (Richmond, Va.) turned in a strong performance on the 1-meter board, finishing third overall with a score of 119.17 to lead the Bison divers.
In the relays, the quartet of Sharrieff, Brooke Whitt (Chicago, Ill.), Benoit, and Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago) took second in the 200 medley relay (1:46.52), narrowly missing the win by less than half a second. The team of Napier, Jasmine Morgan (Chicago, Ill.), McKoy, and Vickles closed out the night with a win in the 200 free relay (1:35.94).
Other top performers included Brooke Whitt, who earned second in the 100 breast (1:07.27), and Faith McCallister (Abingdon, Md.), who followed in fourth (1:10.52). Patton also notched a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:16.84), while Tiara Jackson (Los Angeles, Calif.) added a fifth-place showing.
The Bison return to competition on Friday, November 8, at 1 p.m. for a Tri-Meet hosted by UMBC in Baltimore.
WASHINGTON — Howard men’s swimming & diving team put together an all-around performance Friday night, earning a decisive 146–80 victory over American University in Burr Natatorium. The Bison claimed eight event wins, highlighted by relay wins and individual breakthroughs across the board.
Howard set the tone early with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as Howard’s A relay team consisting of Kaleb James (Durham, N.C.), Mark Brown (Greensboro, N.C.), Taj Benton (Baltimore, Md.), and Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) clocked a winning time of 1:32.84. HU’s B relay team of Darien Williams (Philadelphia), Ayrton Moncur (Nassau, Bahamas), Eltonte Leonard (Kingston, Jamaica), and Daren Rodgers (Chicago, Ill.) followed closely in third (1:36.94).
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Jack Barr (Nassau, Bahamas) posted a new season-best time of 10:21.36 to place second, shaving nearly a second off his previous mark (10:22.22). Ty Triche (Humble, Texas) finished third in 10:31.05 to add early points.
The Bison dominated the sprints and mid-distance events. Jalen Stewart (New Castle, Del.) secured wins in both the 200 free (1:45.09) and 100 free (47.90), while Williams added a runner-up finish in the 200 free and third in the 500 free (5:03.00). Benton took first in the 50 free (21.62), followed by Ibrahima Diouf (Arlington, Va.) in third.
Green’s first appearance in the 100 fly this season made it look easy as he took first in 49.28. Moncur followed in second (52.33) for a 1–2 Bison finish. James added another win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.74. Brown continued Howard’s roll with a victory in the 100 breast (58.60), while Moncur took second.
Howard capped the night with a dominant performance in the 200 free relay, as Benton, James, Diouf, and Green powered to a first-place finish in 1:25.51, with the quartet of Stewart, Triche, Leonard, and Rodgers taking third.
In diving, Kai Lawson (Bethesda, Md.) led the way with a second-place finish (249.65), while Trevor Sewell (Decatur, Ga.) and Zion Wilson (San Antonio, Texas) placed third and fourth, respectively.
The Bison are back in action Friday, November 8, at 1 p.m. when they travel to Baltimore for a Tri-Meet hosted by UMBC.
