Day 2 Prelims Heat Sheet
After the release of the post-scratch psych sheet, on Thursday afternoon, the number of scratches are quite low, as many swimmers with tough doubles, triples, and even quads have already pared down their schedules. A few swimmers did leave that decision until last night, perhaps waiting to see how they felt or swam in particular events.
We already knew that Summer McIntosh would be a withdrawal from the 400 IM, but fellow 2025 World Champion Mollie O’Callaghan of Australia has withdrawn from an event this morning. The 200 free champion from Singapore has opted not to swim the 50 fly this morning, instead concentrating on her bread and butter event, the 200 free, where she is entered as the 3rd seed, behind Canada’s Mary-Sophie Harvey and Lani Pallister.
Opting of the Women’s 200 free was France’s Pauline Mahieu, where she was seeded 13th with a 1:57.03. Instead, the French Olympian will focus on her preferred stroke, the backstroke. In the 100, Mahieu currently is seeded 7th but like all the top 8 seeds will be under pressure from those ranked 9-16, a group that contains the likes of Hannah Fredericks, Leah Shackley, Phoebe Bacon, and Taylor Ruck.
After posting the top time in the prelims of 100 IM, Grant House has opted to pull out of the 200 IM this morning. However his fans, shouldn’t fear as the ASU Pro is still entered in the 100 free where he ranks 19th. He was ranked 14th in the 200 IM, but the event is expected to be a tough top 8 to crack as the likes of Leon Marchand, Shaine Casas, Alberto Razzetti occupy the top three seeds. One spot below him, Australia’s Brendon Smith has also scratched out of the 200 IM, instead opting to take on the 1500 free, and as the 9th seed will be racing in the morning as there were no scratches upon the top 8.
