I see Greenwaldt is getting that Arch Manning hype

Coleman/Mel, if your opinions on alleged positive doping cases are changing, does that pertain to all athletes or just certain countries?

But Arch Manning got hype based on this name, not his performance. Greenwaldt split 21.1 in September, so . . .

Yeah more like getting that Trinidad Chambliss treatment.

yes, Arch’s name did most of it, but he did have college tape out there his first 2 years against lower comp but the analysts still hyped him up. But I guess not being able to replace the guy who eventually went 7th rd in NFL draft should have been a red flag.

…I stated that I used to see positive tests and I thought cheater every time. After seeing the details of cases over the last 13 years (across athletes from all nations), I’m less judgemental–less quick to judge. And, I stated that I also have a high degree of confidence in Travis Tygart.

Discussions about enhanced games contracts with athletes are pointless because any discussion is built upon the premise that the athletes will be paid what was promised.

They most likely will be as it appears that the Enhanced Games has the funding to back it up. Different from the ISL situation, and you can see a photo of Kristian Gkolomeev with his million dollar check

I found the discussion of the finances of professional swimming very interesting.

The fundamental question is: “Where is all the money going?” Just like college athletics (until very recently), it goes to the governing body, administrators, coaches and promoters. With very little going to the athletes.

The LA Olympics 2028 will show just how much revenue the athletes generate and how little they receive of that largesse. A quick internet search shows LA generating $7.1B in revenue to cover expenses. The expenses don’t include paying the athletes.

The post WWII Olympics have become the ultimate Chamber of Commerce event that generates profits for local businesses, tax revenue for governments and money for infrastructure improvements- all on the… Read more »

….yes. agreed. This will require an outside org. That’s been attempted twice and failed both times, but we might be entering an era where enough people/athletes will support/push it.

10 days out from the world cup and world aquatics is still only dripfeeding the athlete announcements, rather than giving us the complete startlist upfront

It’s like they’re trying to stop the sport from expanding and deliberately making it inaccessible

The Brinegar discussion re: appealing and getting a worse punishment out of it just mirrors what the criminal “justice” system is in the US.

That’s why most of them plead out. (I think it’s 97% last I saw?)

Walsh or Macintosh or Douglas as overall champion

If they avoid each other, nobody beats any of them. Only real crossover maybe is 2IM. Kinda boring actually.

Walsh seems unbeatable in 50/100 free/fly. Douglass in 200 breast. McIntosh in 200 fly and 400IM (and 400 free?).

Walsh seems like the only one who is truly guaranteed 9/9 wins if she does a standard schedule.

I wouldn’t say Walsh is unbeatable in the 100 free. She won by .32 at 2024 SC Worlds (and no WR either), and she was at her absolute peak there. There’s no indication that she will in that same form in October, and I think that someone bests her at least once or twice in that event during the World Cup stops.

Yeah fair. Replace that with the 100IM where she is basically unbeatable though

50,100 fly and 100 IM

I guess you could say MOC is the threat in the 100 free and if Walsh looks great in fly and free especially in the underwater then it’s gonna be difficult to beat her.

Walsh and if she’s looks closer to her form like last year short course world champs which I think she will be then she’s probably gonna win all of her event

If each make a priority to win three events at each stop, Gretchen likely will have the easiest time to do it as she can schedule an event on each of the three days at each stop where she is currently the best in the world and in several of those events, she has a pretty big gap to the next fastest current swimmer. This would include the 100IM, 50 fly and 100 fly. I’m not sure what she will actually schedule, though, or if she will schedule doubles on some days. I’m hoping she tries to take down Cate Campbell’s 100 free record on day three at one of the stops and I think many would love to see… Read more »

The Carmel entries are out. Gretchen is currently entered in the 50 free, 50 back, 50 fly, 100 fly and 100 IM. Kate has the 100 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, 100 IM and 200 IM. Summer has the 400 free, 200 back, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM. I suspect will be some scratches given the proximity of some of the events.

About Coleman Hodges

Coleman Hodges

Coleman started his journey in the water at age 1, and although he actually has no memory of that, something must have stuck. A Missouri native, he joined the Columbia Swim Club at age 9, where he is still remembered for his stylish dragon swim trunks. After giving up on …
