Futures ‘A’ Finalist Vito Sgroi Commits To Arizona For 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Vito Sgroi from Sarasota, Florida has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Arizona beginning in fall 2026.

“I’m proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona. I want to thank my family, my teammates, my brother and my club coaches, Coach Brent, Coach Andrew and Coach Webb for getting me this far. A special thank you to the Arizona coaches, Coach Ben, Coach Richardson, Coach Lauren, Coach Amanda and Coach Jay for giving me the opportunity to be a Wildcat. BEAR DOWN!!!🐻”

Sgroi swims for the Sarasota Sharks and finished his long course season at Futures in Ocala, Florida. There he swam to numerous best times including a 2:05.03 200 back, 4:27.62 400 IM, 2:06.77 200 IM, and a 59.36 100 back. His highest finish came in the 200 back as he was 4th.

He began his senior year this fall at Riverview High School. Last November, he swam to two ‘A’ finals at the Florida High School Class 4A State Championships. He touched in a 1:51.32 in the 200 IM for 5th as well as in a 4:37.26 for 8th in the 500 free. He was slightly faster in prelims of the 500 free with a 4:33.84, a time that marked a personal best at the time.

Sgroi’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 200 back: 1:47.56
  • 400 IM: 3:52.42
  • 200 IM: 1:50.72
  • 500 free: 4:33.84

The Arizona men finished 2nd at the 2025 Big 12 Championships with 1301 points under head coach Ben Loorz who was in his first season with the team. Tomas Lukminasa sprint freestyler, led the way for the team and was a member of the team’s 200 free relay that swam to a Big 12 title. Arizona State was notably disqualified in that relay.

Based on his best times, Sgroi already has the potential to make an immediate impact upon his arrival. His best time in the 200 back would already make the Big 12 ‘C’ final, an event the team only had one ‘A’ finalist and one ‘B’ finalist in. Rising junior Will Meyers was 2nd in the event in a 1:40.81 so Meyers and Sgroi will have one season to train together.

Sgroi will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Lucas Morin and Will Harrison.
