15-Yr-Old Lincoln Wearing Rips 7:50.88 SCM 800 Free Aussie Age Record

2025 QUEENSLAND SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

While the 2025 World Championships concluded in Singapore, this year’s Queensland Short Course Championships are just getting underway at the Brisbane Aquatics Centre.

Day one’s agenda included the 800m freestyle across all age groups, with a significant performance turned in at the hands of 15-year-old Lincoln Wearing.

Chandler’s Wearing rocked a time of 7:50.88, the quickest of not only his age group but of the entire age span altogether tonight.

His result hacked over 4 seconds off of Olympian and Singapore medalist Sam Short‘s Queensland Age Record and Australian Age Record of 7:55.08 logged during the 2019 season.

According to the Swimming Australia results database, Wearing’s career-swiftest performance entering this competition rested at the 8:04.72 put on the books as a 14-year-old at the 2024 New Zealand Short Course Championships.

He blew that to bits en route to putting up the first sub-8:00 time of his young career.

Splits for Wearing’s impressive outing are below.

Aussie record is still Giuliani’s from SC Worlds (1:40.36) but I reckon he might’ve been able to get it if he took it out a little bit easier (he was out faster than Luke Hobson’s WR split).

Cunningham was 48.65 in the 100 free to equal Chalmers for #2 all time. Looks like he’s settled in nicely at his new club.
