The 3rd day of the 2025 Summer Sectional in San Diego saw 47-year-old Gabrielle Rose win the women’s 100 breast in a time of 1:08.87. Rose swam her career best of 1:08.32 last year at the US Olympic Trials. This year, she’s been as fast as 1:08.54, which she swam at US Nationals last month. Last night, Rose was out in 32.34 on the first 50, then came home in a speedy 36.53 on the 2nd 50.

Utah’s Erin Palmer had a big swim for 2nd last night, clocking a 1:10.57. She took nearly a full second off her previous best of 1:11.44 with the performance.

31-year-old Pavel Romanov won the men’s 100 breast in 1:02.61 last night. Romanov holds a career best of 1:01.49, which he swam at the TYR Pro Championships in July of 2023.

14-year-old Marley Spray from Gold Medal Swim Club made a splash in the women’s 200 back, winning the race with a 2:17.64. Spray was just off her personal best of 2:17.15 with the swim. Another Gold Medal swimmer, 17-year-old Ellie Kayser, won the women’s 400 free in 4:18.13. A Wisconsin recruit for 2026, last night’s swim marks Kayser’s first time under 4:20 in the event.

Las Vegas Swim Club 18-year-old Max Carlsen won the men’s 400 free in a great race with Sandpipers of Nevada’s Giovanni Sullo. Carlsen, a rising freshman at NC State, appears to have been very in control of his race last night. He was 56.61 on the opening 100, then split 1:00.98 and 1:00.58 on the 2nd and 3rd 100s respectively, before finding a final burst and coming home in 57.38. He wound up finishing in 3:55.55, which is a little off his career best of 3:52.93. Sullo was out very similarly, splitting 56.81 on the opening 100, then splitting 1:01.26, 1:00.13, and 57.89 the rest of the way. Sullo finished in 3:56.09, which blew away his previous best of 4:00.77 that he had just set in prelims.

UC San Diego’s Robby Griswold won the men’s 200 back in 2:04.33 last night. He was out pretty fast, splitting 59.55 on the opening 100, but he pace slipped a bit on the back half, and he came home in 1:04.78. Griswold holds a career best of 2:03.89.

Canyons Aquatic Club 17-year-old Tori Yamamura won the women’s 100 fly in 1:01.36. That performance came after Yamamura popped a new personal best of 1:01.19 in prelims yesterday.

UC San Diego’s Hunter Cehelnik won the men’s 100 fly in 54.13 last night. Like Yamamura, Cehelnik was faster in prelims, establishing a new career best with a 54.12.

it’s insane and wonderful to see her “develop” and even to think whether to put “develop” in quotes.
It’s fair to say Rose is still growing and improving in so many ways.
