  • Long Course Meters (50m)

Aquatics GB has selected 10 athletes set to represent Great Britain in the swimming portion of the 2025 World University Games (WUGs) in Berlin, Germany, from July 17th-23rd.

The British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) announced the roster on July 1.

Five institutions will be represented for Great Britain, with the University of Edinburgh leading the way with three athletes. Loughborough University, Loughborough College, and the University of Bath sent two swimmers, tied for the second largest contingent. Rounding out the list is Edinburgh Napier University with one qualifier.

Among the athletes is 21-year-old Fleur Lewis of Loughborough University, the current British short course record holder in the women’s 1500 freestyle. Lewis’ time of 15:46.15 from the 2023 BUCS Championships broke the 18-year-old record set back in 2005 by Rebecca Cooke at 15:51.74. Lewis will be competing in the 800 freestyle in Rhine-Ruhr.

Making another appearance at the international level is 23-year-old Ciara Schlosshan, of the University of Edinburgh. Schlosshan is a two-time European Junior Championship silver medalist, coming in 2017 in Netanya, Israel, and again in 2018 in Helsinki, Finland, both in the 200 butterfly.  She has also competed at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis in 2017, earning a spot in the finals in the 200 IM.

On the men’s side, 24-year-old Archie Goodburn of the University of Edinburgh, the current LCM 50 breaststroke Scottish Record Holder, will be racing the 100 breaststroke at the Games. Since his announcement of three inoperable brain tumors back in June of 2024, Goodburn has continued to compete, representing Great Britain at the 2024 Short Course World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and winning gold in the 100 breaststroke at the 2025 Scottish Swimming Championships.
