Germany’s Distance Freestyle Dynamos Head Up World Championships Roster

2025 WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • Saturday, July 26th – Sunday, August 3rd (pool swimming)
  • OCBC Aquatic Centre, Singapore
  • LCM (50m)
  • Meet Central

With the 2025 World Aquatics Championships on the horizon, we now know who will represent the nation of Germany later this month.

A 23-strong squad comprised of 14 men and 9 women are headed to Singapore, with Germany carrying major momentum primarily in the form of its men’s distance swimming.

Lukas Märtens, Oliver Klemet, Florian Wellbrock and Sven Schwarz have been tearing up the current world rankings across the 400m, 800m and 1500m free events.

Their outings were highlighted by Märtens’ world-record-setting stunner of 3:39.96 in the 4free, a time clocked at the Swim Open Stockholm in March of this year.

The 23-year-old also ranks 2nd in the world behind Schwarz who nailed a new European Record of 7:38.12 in May, while Wellbrok and Schwarz are the #1 and #2 men in the world in the 1500m free.

But the women have several medal contenders as well, with that side of the lineup containing world champion Angelina Köhler and Olympic medalist Isabel Gose.

Of note, the German Swimming Federation indicated that Nele Schulze, a swimmer selected for relays, has withdrawn from the World Championships due to health reasons.

Christian Hansmann, Germany’s Executive Board Member for Competitive Sports said of the nation’s squad, “After the great successes in Paris 2024, our established forces have once again shown a series of world-class performances in the post-Olympic spring, which makes us optimistic.

Equally pleasing with a view to Singapore is that we have Maya WernerLise SeidelNina JazyJulianna Dora BocskaJarno Bäschnitt and Vincent Passek, a whole series of young newcomers to the national team, from whom we expect successful development in the new Olympic cycle and who will certainly benefit from the World Championship experience.”

The race to watch at worlds to watch. Will be the men’s 1500m. I think we are in for a few surprises.Obviously the shorter distances are peoples favourites!Roll on Singapore and a lightning fast pool( correct depth).

Do we know whether Martens is doing the full 200/400/800 set or if he’s skipping the 800

Like Fukuoka, I believe open water events will occur before pool events. This will have an impact on the pool races, as it did in Fukuoka with several swimmers. This favors swimmers like Finke, Wiffen, Short, Tuncelli, & Jaouadi in the longer pool events. Wellbrock, Klemet, Paltrinieri, and Betlehem will be negatively impacted in the pool. To my knowledge, Schwarz is not an open water swimmer, so we’ll likely get to him at his best in the pool.

The same A. Kohler who did not even medal in the W 100 FL at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Neither did Dressel. It happens. There are 3 medals for a field of 40 or so.

You may have to represent a local club. Miroslaw isn’t training in Hamburg.
