The 2025 CSCAA National Invitational Championship concluded on Saturday in Ocala. After leading the meet from start to finish, the Akron women and Ohio State men emerged victorious, heading home with team titles. Kentucky made it a close meet with Akron in the end, but came up short by 21 points. Meanwhile, Ohio State won convincingly on the men’s side.
The meet ended in a fitting manner, seeing Akron crack the meet record in the women’s 400 free relay. Felicia Klintemar (49.61), Hannah Trainer (48.93), Aislinn Holder (49.06), Rebecca Reid (49.35) combined for a 3:16.95, taking down the record, which stood at 3:17.39.
The men’s 400 free relay also saw the meet record go down at the hands of Queens (NC). Daniel Meszaros (42.96), Nien Levy (43.19), Ondrej Dusa (43.27), and Matej Dusa (42.75) teamed up for a 2:52.17, clipping their own record mark of 3:52.25 from last year’s meet. Of note, Meszaros won the men’s 100 free on Saturday night as well, where he clocked a 42.81. That swim came in just off his career best of 42.78, which he swam last month at the ASUN Championships.
Another meet record fell at the hands of Queens’ Abigail Zboran, who won the women’s 100 IM in 54.39. With the swim, she undercut the previous record of 54.56, which was set by Akron’s Rebecca Reid last year. Reid came in 2nd on Saturday with a 54.71.
Ohio State’s Reese Dehen set a new meet record in the women’s 200 breast, winning the race in 2:10.61. Dehen set her career best of 2:10.22 at the Ohio State Invite back in November.
The Buckeyes also picked up a win in the women’s 200 fly, where Jessica Eden swam a 1:57.45. Eden touched out teammate Lucy Malys by 0.01 seconds, marking a 1-2 finish for Ohio State.
Utah had a 1-2 finish of their own, seeing Quinn Jones win the men’s 1650 free in 15:03.68, while fellow Ute Jones Lambert took 2nd in 15:09.76. Jones’ swim marked a new career best for the sophomore, while Lambert, a freshman, was just off his career best of 15:07.75.
Rice then went 1-2 in the women’s 1650 free, where Ella Dyson won with a time of 16:20.79. Teammate Ava Portello finished 2nd in 16:24.51. Dyson has been as fast as 16:14.03 in her career, while Portello was just off her career best of 16:22.84, which she swam at a last chance meet on March 1st.
Drexel’s Sebastian Smith won the men’s 100 IM convincingly, swimming a 47.82. Drexel’s Kuba Kwasny won the men’s 200 fly, where he swam a 1:44.40. Interestingly, the men’s 200 fly was also won by 0.01 seconds, just like the women’s event, as Ohio State’s Alex Metzler touched 2nd in 1:44.41. Kwasny and Metzler traded the lead throughout the race, but it was Kwasny who got his hands on the wall 1st at the end.
Ohio State’s Luke Vickers took the men’s 200 breast in 1:55.43. It was a good swim for the freshman, however, he was off his career best of 1:53.71, set at the Big Ten Championships a few weeks ago.
Ball State earned a win in the women’s 100 free, where Payton Kelly clocked a 49.04. Kelly swam her career best of 48.82 at the MAC Championships a few weeks ago.
