PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Kyla Kelly and Clara Renner claimed two individual events apiece and seven different Bison won races as the Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team defeated La Salle 175-125 on Friday in the first meet of 2025. The Bison improved to 4-1 on the season and will now have a short turnaround before hosting Army West Point on Saturday afternoon.
The Bison faced an early deficit after the Explorers (5-5) took the top two spots in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. But Bucknell quickly surged ahead with dominant performances in the first two individual races. Renner and Virginia Hastings went 1-2 in the 1,000 freestyle, and then Rylie Giles, Kelly Byrne, and Ashley Piacentino swept the top three spots in the 200 free.
La Salle followed with wins in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, but Bucknell won eight of the final 11 events to pull away.
The Bison won both butterfly events, with Skye Sunderhauf and Sydney Dettmann going 1-2 in the 200 and Renner posting her second win of the day in the 100. In the sprints, Sara Ketron and Kelly took 1-2 in the 50, with only five-hundredths of a second separating them. Kelly then came back to win the 100, just ahead of teammate Giles, as well as the 200 individual medley in a 1-2 finish with Byrne. Byrne later won the 500 free in a top-two sweep with Dettmann
Talia Bugel won the 200 backstroke, with Sofia Burns collecting her second runner-up finish of the day.
Bucknell closed out the meet with a three-second win in the 400 free relay. Ketron, Hastings, Renner, and Giles comprised the winning quartet.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Alex Crossing and Andy Dorsel accounted for four of Bucknell’s eight event wins as the Bison men’s swimming & diving team rolled to a 183-116 win over La Salle on Friday at Kirk Pool. Now 3-2 in dual meets this season, the Bison swept the top three places in six of their eight wins, and in four of the races won by the Explorers, Bucknell followed with 2-3-4 finishes.
La Salle (1-5) started the day with a close win in the 200-yard medley relay, but the Bison quickly surged in front for good with sweeps in the first two individual events, the 1,000 and 200 freestyles. The distance trio of Crossing, William Shoemaker, and Finn Franks set the tone with a 1-2-3 finish, with Crossing’s winning margin coming by more than seven seconds. In the 200, it was Chris Kopac, Dante Buanadonna, and Damian Czartoryjski taking the top three spots.
The Explorers went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke but it was all Bison the rest of the way. James Lombardi and Will Hedges finished first and second in the 100 breaststroke, Braden Beagle won the 200 back, and Bucknell swept the top three in the 50 free (Justin DiSanto, Colin Smith, Finn Russell), 200 breast (Andy Dorsel, Hedges, Lombardi) 500 free (Crossing, Riley Twiss, Shoemaker), and 200 individual medley (Dorsel, Buonadonna, Ed Park).
Bucknell went 2-3-4 in the 200 fly (Dorsel, Twiss, Park), 100 free (DiSanto, Kopac, Smith), 100 fly (Russell, Czartoryjski, Shane Wynne), and 3-meter diving (Jack Krug, Connor Thurston, Jackson Vinarub). Thurston was also runner-up on the 1-meter board.

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle swimming and diving teams held a dual meet at Kirk Pool Friday afternoon, squaring off against the Bucknell Bison.
Overall, the men’s team lost by a score of 183-116, while the women’s team lost by a score of 175-125 to the Bison.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Explorers won the first two events, with both teams getting gold in the 200-yard medley relays.
- Gabrysia Herbreder, Carlota Ungo, Tori Fenn, and Camilla Frost was the winning team in the relay event, finishing in a time of 1:46.15.
- Tarik Gusic, AJ Wong, Felix Jedbratt, and Carter Perkins worked together to get the Explorers the win in the same event. They finished with a time of 1:32.71.
- Herbreder got her second win of the day in the 100-yard back, winning with a time of 58.76.
- After Herbreder’s win, La Salle would win the following two events. Gusic won the 100-yard back, completing it in 51.83, while Ungo won the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:06.57.
- Jedbratt dominated in the 200-yard butterfly, as his winning time of 1:50.23 was more than four seconds faster than every other competitor. He would also easily win the 100-yard fly moments later, finishing with a time of 48.84.
- Carter Perkins won the 100-yard free with a time of 46.89.
- Herbreder and Ungo went 1-2 in the 200-yard breaststroke, with respective times of 2:22.29 and 2:24.55.
- In the last swim event of the day, the team of Perkins, Jedbratt, Gusic, and Noah Fredriksson won the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:05.49.
- On the diving end, the women swept the podium in the one-meter event. Tiffany Brawn won the event, followed by Kelsie Waddington and Ava Keller.
- Carter Randall and Bryce Peterson placed first and third in the same event.
- Brawn won the other diving event (three-meter) with a score of 262.2.
- Liam Cahill made sure all the diving events were won by the Blue and Gold, winning the three-meter event with a score of 272.25.
