McKendree Earns Sweep of Evansville In Road Opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – McKendree Swim and Dive secured a road victory over Evansville University with a score of 156-91.

Junior Jocelyn Zgola placed first in two events, the 1000- and 500-yard freestyle with times of 10:47.31 and 5:17.89.

Freshman Bianka Bukovics saw two first place finishes as well in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes finishing in 1:00.09 and 2:09.25. Bukovics also helped the 200-yard medley relay place third with a time of 1:50.39 along with sophomore Chiara Fuerst, senior Aurora Abbruscato, and freshman Tumi Macdonell.

Junior Rylee Sitton placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.86, and second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.38. Sitton was the second leg of the first place 200 yard medley relay as well alongside 5th year senior Alexis Kachkin, graduate student Sophia Burwitz, and senior Karley Sonnenberg with a time of 1:47.83.

The rest of the relay quadrant had solid days as well. Kachkin placed first in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle with times of 52.47 and 1:56.10. Sonnenberg placed first in the 50 yard freestyle. Burwitz placed first in the 100-yard and 200-yard fly with times of 57.93 and 2:09.55 respectively.

Senior Sarah Gormley placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, and freshman Tumi Macdonell saw a duo of second place finishes with times of 24.64 and 52.90 in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles.

 

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – McKendree Swim and Dive secured a road victory over the University of Evansville with a score of 161-95.

Freshman Polat Tasbasi led the Bearcats with two first place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 56.53 and 2:02.73 respectively. Tasbasi also helped the McKendree B team place second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.20.

The A team consisting of senior Patryk Rozenek, freshman Nojuus Bertulis, freshman Vova Garvrysh, and junior Tyson Upton placed first with a time of 1:30.06.

Garvrysh placed first in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:47.81.

Sophomore Christan Davidson placed first in the 500-yard freestyle, second in the 1000 freestyle, and third in the 200-yard freestyle finishing with times of 4:37.96, 9:42.76, and 1:43.71 respectively.

Senior Jackson Lustig placed first in both the 1000-yard freestyle and 100-yard fly with times of 9:29.52, and 49.33.

Senior Alireza Yavari placed first in the 100-yard freestyle and second in the 200-yard freestyle with finishes of 47.09 and 1:43.43. Yavari also was a part of the 200-yard medley relay B team.

Senior Aurthur Souza saw a trio of second place finishes with the 200-yard medley relay B team, 50-yard freestyle, and 500-yard freestyle. Souza finished with times of 21.31 and 4:47.53 in each individual race respectively.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Facing one of the top teams in the nation at the Division II level, the University of Evansville swimming teams put up solid battles on Saturday at Deaconess Aquatic Center.


Results


On the men’s side, the Purple Aces fell to the second-ranked team in the country by a 195-95 final while the women fell short by a 156-91 score.

Evelyn Chin was victorious in the 100-fly, posting a time of 57.72.  She edged the competition by 0.21.  In the 200-IM, it was Sveva Brugnoli coming home with the win.  Her 2:10.85 was close to two seconds ahead of the runner-up.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Mari Mueller and Rafaela Makariewicz took second and third.  Mueller was less than a half second behind the winning time.  Hannah Krings picked up a pair of second-place efforts.  In the 1000-free, she swam an 11:10.69 while her time in the 500-free was a 5:27.37.  Ane Madina registered a 1:00.54 in the 100-backstroke to take second.

Daniel Santos Lopez had the top time in the 50-free.  In a finish that came down to the wire, his 21.27 edged the #2 finisher by 0.04.  Patrik Vilbergsson continued a nice start to the season in the 200-back.  With a 1:52.17, he earned the top finish by just over a second.

Carlos Souto came in second place in the 100-breaststroke.  With a 57.50, he completed the race less than a second off the winning pace.  Souto picked up another 2nd place finish in the 200, finishing in 2:12.12.  Joao Pereira finished just behind him to take third.

Both squads return to the pool on Friday for a 4 p.m. meet against USI.  Action will take place on campus at Wyttenbach Pool.
