LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego swim hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, Oct. 19 in their annual dual meet.

The Tritom women defeated CMS in a score 177 to 80. The Triton men defeated CMS with a result of 160 to 95.

ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE
Four Triton women scored 18 points for UC San Diego. Madison O’ConnellHayley GregoryEdana Huang, and Audrey Moore all scored 18 points in three or more events. Winning all three of her events, O’Connell took first in the 50 free, 200 back, and swam anchor in the 400 free relay.

Gregory took second on the 200 medley relay team, won the 100 breast, and won the 200 back. In the 100 breast, the freshman managed to out touch teammate Chloe Braun by 0.01 seconds. Winning both the 100 fly and 200 fly, Huang was able to score as an individual. Moore won her three events, scoring in the 100 free, 200 free, and the 400 free.

ON THE MEN’S SIDE
Hunter Cehelnik took home four first place finishes and led the Triton men with 18 points. The newcomer swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay, 50 free, 100 fly, and the third leg of the 400 free.

Swimming the 200 back with a time of 1:44.34, Luigi Franco won the event and was 0.08 seconds from breaking the UC San Diego program record.

UP NEXT
The Triton women will travel to Davis for a women’s only dual on Saturday, Oct. 26. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m.

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s swimming and diving team opened its 2024-25 season with a 180-82 defeat to Division I UC San Diego on Saturday.

Mackenzie Mayfield was a close second in the 100 fly in 57.01, just .23 behind winner Edana Huang for the Tritons. Mayfield also took third in the 50 free in 24.66 and added a third-place finish in the 200 IM in 2:09.26.

Katy Shaw opened the individual competition with a second-place finish in the 1000 free in 10:39.59. Kelly Prawira was third in the 200 breast in 2:26.43, and Sun Young Byun was third in the 200 free in 1:55.65. Madeleine Kan took third in the 100 free in 54.03.

Nicolle Makhervaks came in fourth in the 100 back in her first collegiate swim, coming in under the one-minute mark in 59.26, and was also fourth in the 200 back in 2:07.74.

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it travels to Whittier to compete in a double dual meet with Chapman on Nov. 2.

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s swimming and diving team opened the 2024 season with a 163-99 defeat to Division I UC San Diego on Saturday.

In the first individual race of the day, Lucas Lang swam a 9:46.90 in the 1000 yard freestyle to finish third, his first race since winning the Division III national title in the 1650 a year ago. Lang added a second-place finish in the 500 free in 4:43.43 later in the meet.

Kenny Eckel had a solid effort in his first swim, finishing second in the 100 breast with a 57.57, and later added another second-place in the 100 free in 47.79, before coming in third in the 200 IM. Dean Ko and Michael Ferraioli also finished second – in a tie – as they both swam a 1:56.19 in the 200-yard butterfly.

Ko (second) and Sean Su (third) were in the top three in the 200 back in 1:56.66 and 1:59.01, respectively. Su also earned a third-place finish in the 200 free in 1:42.69 in the first race of his career.  Lucas Williams (second) and Spencer Merodio (third) did similarly in the 200 breast in 2:09.98 and 2:11.29, respectively.

Dylan Krueger earned third place in the 50 free in 21.40, while Tyler Headley was third in the 100 fly in 51.98

CMS will be back in action on November 2, when it travels to Whittier for a double dual meet with Chapman, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
