With just 15 days to go until the start of swimming action at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, we now have a glimpse into the initial male and female entries for each nation.
We’ll be breaking down any surprises in separate posts. But you’re able to see any individual athletes’ entries as they stand today by visiting the World Aquatics website and searching on any given athlete here.

A total of 854 athletes – 463 male and 391 female – from 187 countries, the Individual Neutral Athletes and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, will compete in the swimming events at the Paris 2024 Games.
Although the number of countries has grown from the 182 from the last edition of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the total number of athletes is less this time around. Tokyo had 880 individual swimmers entered.
The United States topped the swimming medal table in Tokyo, amassing a total of 30 pieces of hardware including 11 golds, 10 silvers and 9 bronze. Australia was next in line with 21 medals, including 9 golds, 3 silvers and 9 bronze while Great Britain rounded out the top 3 nations.

How can Australia only have 3 top seeds for the women? 200 free, 400 free, 200 back and 200IM all have the fastest time in the qualifying period (3 of those are also world records)
Edit: For some reason Kaylee’s entered with her 2:06.99 instead of her PB from trials in the 200IM. So Actually Aus should have one more top seed and USA should have one less
I was trying to work out whether it is strategic to give her more rest?
So it looks like they didn’t follow the protocol for inviting OTC cuts. They just did highest world ranking not highest world ranking per event as it says? Shame for Ali Khalafala.
Have not looked, but was it not highest world ranking per event based on Max 2 swimmers per country or something like that (have not look at this, but most of the time the rankings are similar to that in most sports even though the number might change depending on the sport, 3 in TF, 1 in many sports such as wrestling, sailing etc).
“If there are 28 or more spaces available, one athlete will be invited in each of the 28 individual events. In each individual event, this will be the next fastest athlete with an OCT, provided that this athlete is not the third swimmer in an individual event from the same NOC, or the second swimmer from an NOC if there is already one OQT athlete from that NOC.“

What about Haughey and Steenbergen?
I wouldn’t count out Haughey for gold or silver with 52.02.
I never said she was the ONLY person who could do it
I would be surprised if she swims it based on everything she has said during the last 1-2 years

what does that even mean? Entered in surfing? He can stand up and ride a wave and do tiny turns but he is at beginner level in surfing.
I know it was expected, but I was still holding onto a little bit of hope that Hafnaoui would make an unexpected comeback here
