A winter storm blowing through Minneapolis has caused travel delays for several teams heading into town for this week’s showcase Minnesota Invite. That is what lead to the delay of releasing the psych sheets for the meet, which were released late in the day on Tuesday.
According to Minnesota aquatics staff, as of 8:00PM Central time, the Wisconsin team had made it into Minneapolis, along with half of Texas, and a few members of the Cal team. Harvard and UNLV were reportedly “in the air” at that time as well.
A Winter Storm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Tuesday, with between 4 and 8 inches of snow expected to be dumped on the area over 12 hours. At 3:19 PM, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport announced that runways were closed due to “excessive snowfall rates and low visibility.”
The runways were closed for 2 hours, resulting in the cancellation of at least 116 flights and an additional 187 delays. No more snow is forecasted through the weekend, with The Weather Channel predicting temperatures to rise to a high on 41 on Friday before plummeting to a high of just 18 on Saturday.
Racing is scheduled to begin in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening with a timed-finals session of the 200 medley and 800 free relays. Among the featured teams are the defending top two at the 2022 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, Cal and Texas. Both schools attended this meet last year as well.

The University of Minnesota is the host of the 2023 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, which will run from March 22-March 25, 2023. In addition to being a high-profile, highly-competitive racing opportunity, the meet also offers men’s teams a preview of the NCAA Championship facility.
The women’s NCAA Championship will be held a week earlier in Knoxville, Tennessee.
I spent half an hour digging my car out of 8 inches of snow.
The weather is a challenge to living in the north.
I will laugh at this in 6 months.

At least it didn’t have a load of iron ore 26,000 tons more than it weighed empty.

Well, they’re both swimming at Worlds in just a couple weeks, so I’m not surprised they’d be focusing on that over this meet.
ugh! Let’s hope winter is done in Minnesota in March for Men’s NCAA’s…..

Lol we usually don’t wrap up winter until May. Absolutely no Minnesotans will be packing up the snow blower in March. Sorry to break it to ya.
Last time I was at NCAAs in Minneapolis, there was one day where I wore shorts! It was like 48 and sunny!
And that was women’s, which is a week BEFORE men’s!

I watched women’s NCAAs in shorts this year (in Wisconsin) and it snowed during the men’s meet the following week, so you just never know. If we are lucky, the meet will fall during what we in the upper Midwest call “False Spring”.
