Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Jordan Crooks, Tennessee
Tennessee’s Jordan Crooks, a sophomore from George Town, Cayman Islands, won three individual events and was a part of five winning relays at the 2022 Tennessee Invitational. Crooks set two individual program records (50 free, 100 fly) and was a member of three relays (200 free, 400 free, 400 medley) that notched the fastest times in Tennessee history. He posted the nation-leading time of 18.27 in his leadoff 50 free split of the 200 free relay, which posted the second-best time in the country (1:15.32). Crooks also recorded the top times nationally in the 100 free (41.29) and 100 fly (44.79) during the weekend.
Men’s Diver of the Week: Bryden Hattie, Tennessee
Tennessee’s Bryden Hattie, a junior from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, took the top spot on the platform at the Tennessee Invitational with a score of 402.50, winning the event by more than 18 points. On the springboards, Hattie placed second overall with scores of 364.75 on the 1-meter and 392.05 on the 3-meter.
Men’s Co-Freshmen of the Week: Gui Caribe, Tennessee and Baylor Nelson, Texas A&M
Tennessee’s Gui Caribe, a freshman from Salvador, Brazil, recorded a pair of top-3 times nationally in the sprint freestyles and was a part of four relay-winning lineups to help the Vols go 4-0 at the Tennessee Invitational, including wins against No. 8 Virginia and No. 14 Michigan. Caribe’s 41.44 time in the 100 free is the second-fastest mark in the country this season and was the second-best time ever by an NCAA freshman. In the 50 free, he touched the wall in 18.91, which ranks third overall this year. Caribe also helped four different lineups to nationally ranked times in the 400 free relay (1st/2:47.27/41.55), 200 free relay (2nd/1:15.32/18.65), 400 medley relay (3rd/3:03.77/40.91) and 200 medley relay (7th/1:23.84/18.69).
Texas A&M’s Baylor Nelson, a freshman from Huntersville, N.C., earned a pair of individual wins and was a part of a winning relay at the Art Adamson Invitational. Nelson posted an NCAA A-cut time of 3:38.39 to win the 400 IM, the second fastest time in the nation. He also swam the second fastest time in the nation to claim the top spot in the 200 IM with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:41.83. Nelson was the anchor leg in the first-place 400 medley relay (1:23.45/18.92), the second-fastest time in school history.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Maggie MacNeil, LSU
LSU’s Maggie MacNeil, a fifth-year senior from London, Ontario, Canada, recorded a trio of NCAA A-cut times to win all her individual events at the Art Adamson Invitational. MacNeil reset the school records in the 50 free (21.03) and the 100 fly (49.40), both the second-fastest times in the nation, along with the 100 back (50.70) the third fastest time nationally in. She also swam the second leg of the 200 free relay (1:27.63/20.59), the third leg of the 200 medley relay (1:37.78/21.85) and the third leg of the 400 medley relay (3:33.47/49.10).
Women’s Diver of the Week: Kyndal Knight, Kentucky
Kentucky’s Kyndal Knight, a fifth-year from Stanley, N.C., swept both springboard events at the Ohio State Invitational. Knight finished with a score of 329.25 on the 1-meter and 382.30 on the 3-meter. She was also runner-up on the platform, posting a final score of 314.45.
Women’s Freshman of the Week: Amy Riordan, South Carolina
South Carolina’s Amy Riordan, a freshman from Martinez, Ga., won the 500 free at the Gamecock Invitational with an NCAA B-cut time of 4:45.97, the fourth fastest time in program history. Riordan was also runner-up in the 200 free with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:46.86. She swam the third leg of the winning 400 free relay (3:16.43/49.72), the second fastest relay time in school history.
