In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.
Molly Sweeney, 14, Carmel Swim Club (CSC-IN): Sweeney had a standout showing at the Indiana Age Group State Championships over the weekend in Indianapolis, registering seven personal best times and six that rank in the top 100 all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group. Sweeney’s top performance came in the 200 IM, where she knocked off more than two seconds from her lifetime best in 1:59.11 to rank 17th all-time in 13-14 history. She’s also now tied for 41st in the 100 breast (1:02.08), 53rd in the 200 breast (2:14.86), 58th in the 400 IM (4:16.66), tied for 72nd in the 100 fly (54.36) and 91st in the 200 free (1:48.61).
Caleb Camet, 12, Potomac Marlins (PM-PV): The 12-year-old Camet established best times across seven different events at the PV 14 & Under Junior Olympics in College Park, highlighted by a 55.45 effort in the 100 backstroke. The swim, which improved on the 12-year-old’s previous best of 56.10, ranks him 55th all-time among 11-12 boys and fourth-fastest in the age group this season. His 50 back time of 26.21 ranks fifth in 2021-22.
Ava Jochims, 12, Racer X Aquatics (RXA-AM): In the midst of a High Point weekend at the 2022 Allegheny Mountain Swimming JOs, Jochims broke a 44-year old AMS record from 1977 in the 1650 free, posting a time of 17:51.27. The event was one of nine best times for her on the weekend. Jochims’ 1650 time places her seventh in the nation this season among 12-year old girls. With a broad range of strengths, Jochims currently holds national top 20 times in the 1000 free (4th at 10:43.53), 100 free (15th at 53.95), and the 400 IM (16th at 4:41.33).
Langston Lindsey, 12, Gold Medal Swim Club (GM-AZ): Lindsey knocked down best times in seven events at the Arizona SC Age Group State Championships over the weekend, including some highly-ranked swims in the 50 and 100 butterfly. The 12-year-old’s time of 24.76 in the 50 fly ranks him tied for 46th in 11-12 age group history, and his 54.47 100 fly showing now ranks 42nd all-time.
Sofia Jorge, 13, Metro Aquatic Club of Miami (MACM-FG): Jorge clocked in five lifetime bests at the FG Junior Olympics in Coral Springs, Florida, highlighted by a 55.25 effort in the 100 butterfly that ranks her second this season and tied for 43rd all-time among 13-year-old girls.
Kenneth Barnicle, 14, Greater Somerset County YMCA (SHY-NJ): The 14-year-old Barnicle made some noise in the backstroke events at the NJ YMCA 13 & Over State Championships in Lancaster, PA, vaulting up to 47th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group with a time of 50.40 in the 100 back. In the 200 back, Barnicle clocked 1:50.14 to move into a tie for 77th in age group history. He hit a total of six PBs at the competition, also including a 23.83 50 back which ranks tied for fifth in the 13-14 age group this season.
