Bloomsburg Captures First Ever PSAC Men’s Swimming Championships

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — The Bloomsburg University Huskies captured their first ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming title Thursday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pennsylvania. The Huskies were headlined by Andy Thomas who broke a trio of records and helped BU earn every relay victory in the meet.

Bloomsburg’s championship was its first men’s swimming championship in its history. It was also the first men’s swimming champion besides West Chester University since 1998.

Right from the beginning of the meet, the Huskies were firing on all cylinders. At the end of day one, BU tallied 483 points, tallying to a lead of 199 points over second-place finisher, Shippensburg (560 points total).

On day one, the Huskies won both relays including the 200 Yard Medley (1:31.05) and the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:23.08). They also had four of the top-5 finishers in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Thomas also paced the Huskies on day one coming in first place in the 50 Yard Free (20:08) and the 200 Yard Free (1:35.53) breaking a meet record.

Bloomsburg continued its dominance into day two as they finished with 945 points. Their first victory of the day came in the 100 Yard Breaststroke when Thomas earned another win with a time of 54.42. They then banded together to win the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay at the end of the third session.

In the final session, Thomas broke a PSAC and a meet record in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 44.20 after the 1650 Freestyle. The Huskies then capped off their victory finishing first in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:01.27.

Other top performers for the Huskies were Colton Schnars, Blake Nesbitt, and Noah Cancro who recorded 65, 62 and 62 points, respectively.

Clarion’s Connor Cary claimed meet top performer honors with top finishes in the Men’s 200 Yard IM (1:49.91), the 100 Yard Fly (48.98) and the 200 Yard Fly (1:49.11).
