Shinri Shioura is a competitive swimmer who represents Japan internationally.
International Competition
2013 World Championships
Shioura earned his first major international medal in Barcelona as a part of the bronze winning 4×100 medley relay. He also swam the 50 free and 100 free individually. In the 50, he broke a national record in the prelims (22.02) and finished 15th overall in the semi finals. In the 100, he advanced to semi finals and finished 10th overall (48.51).
2014 Japanese Nationals
At nationals, Shinri made history as the first Japanese man to dip under the 22-second barrier in the 50 free, touching the wall at 21.88 for a new national record. He also won the 100 free in 48.69.
2014 Asian Games
Shinri earned his first international silver medals in Incheon, earning 4 silvers for Japan. He placed 2nd in the 50 free (22.11), 100 free (48.85), and as part of the 4×100 free and medley relays.
2015 World Championships
Shioura swam the 50 and 100 free in Kazan, advancing to the semi finals in both and placing 12th overall in the 50 (22.08) and 15th overall in the 100 (48.96). He also swam on Japan’s 4×100 free and medley relay, both of which placed 6th in finals.
2016 Olympic Games
Shioura swam the 50 and 100 free in Rio, advancing to the semis in the 50 and finishing 16th overall (22.18). In the 100, he placed 27th (48.94) in the prelims. He also swam on Japan’s 4×100 free relay which set a national record in the prelims and placed 8th overall in the final heat.
2016 Short Course World Championships
Coming off of his performance in Rio, Shioura won 4 medals in Windsor. He placed 2nd in the 100 free (46.59, Asian record) and 3rd in the 100 IM (52.17), 4×50 free relay, and 4×100 medley relay.
2017 World Championships
In Budapest, Shinri advanced to the semi finals in the 50 free, finishing in 14th overall (22.02). He also advanced to semis in the 100 free, finishing in 11th (48.54) after swimming a personal best of 48.46 in prelims to tie (with 3 other swimmers) for 5th.
2018 Pan Pacific Championships
In his home country, Shioura won a bronze as part of the 4×100 free relay. He also competed in the 100 free (8th, 48.68) and 50 free (5th, 22.27).
2018 Asian Games
In Jakarta, Shioura won his first international golds, both in the 100 free (48.71) and leading off the winning 4×100 free relay (48.85) that set a games record. He also earned a silver anchoring the national record setting 4×100 medley relay (47.99).
