Illinois Backstroker Michaela Mitchell Signs NLI with Miami of Ohio

Michaela Mitchell, a senior at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in the fall of 2017.

“Hollie, the head coach, and everyone on the team immediately made me feel right at home. This supportive and encouraging atmosphere combined with high academic standards, an amazing campus, state of the art facilities, and a classic college town feel makes me excited to be a Redhawk for the next four years!”

Mitchell specializes in backstroke, and was a finalist in the 100 back at the 2016 IHSA Girls State Championships last November. She also competed in the 200 free. Mitchell also swims for Lincoln Way Swim Association. At last summer’s USA Swimming Futures Championships in Austin, she swam the 100/200m free and 100/200m back, earning a PB in the 200 back.

Her top SCY times are:

  • 100 Back – 56.74
  • 200 Back – 2:03.74

Mitchell will join Colleen McDermott and Madison Hoehn in the Miami University class of 2021.
