Cypress, Texas-based Luke Bowman has made a verbal commitment to the University of Texas Longhorns for the 2017-18 season.
“I am excited to attend a great university and swim for a legendary program and coach. This has been a dream of mine since I started swimming, and I know that there is no better group of swimmers and coaches that will push me to work hard and get faster. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Bowman is a senior at Cypress Ranch High School. He has had an outstanding past two seasons, achieving personal bests in every single event, including the 50 free and 100 back swimming for Cypress Ranch his junior year. Bowman also swims for Team FINS, and was particularly successful this past long course season at the Southern Zone Senior Championships in Mississippi. He dropped time in all six events, earning national cuts in four of them (50/100m free, 100/200m back).
Bowman had a breakthrough year in 2015-16. A sampling of his top events and the time drops he had are as follows:
SCY | LCM | |
100 back | 52.91 (-0.9) | 58.75 (-3.7) |
200 back | 1:55.07 (-2.9) | 2:08.37 (-4.0) |
50 free | 21.89 (n.m.) | 24.14 (-0.8) |
100 free | 47.03 (-1.7) | 52.71 (-2.1) |
200 free | 1:41.04 (-2.8) | 1:56.89 (-1.8) |
200 IM | 1:56.82 (-3.2) | 2:10.94 (-4.6) |
If the past year is any indication of his future potential, Bowman could be the surprise recruit of the Longhorns’ class of 2021.

Good looking kid… looks like his dad and EVEN better looking than his grand dad 😉
Way to go Luke! So happy for and proud of you.
We may be looking at Eddie’s swan song. Great kid.
This is not Bob Bowman’s grandson…
It is not his grandson. His grandpa is Eddie Reese
Correct..I was dismissing the fact that people were saying this was Bob’s grandson. I wasn’t aware that it was Eddie’s! Very interesting.
Am I missing something? Seems a little slow even for a walk on. I’m not trying to be mean, but why not go somewhere you would be more competitive?
You might be…keeping track of him the last couple years his times keep dropping. Looks like he is just scratching the surface physically
Eddie Reese is his grandpa
If you knew who he was you’d see that he is 6′ 2″ and hasn’t even really grown yet. And also his time drops that are posted aren’t from a year apart he went from a 1:48.0 to a 1:41.0 in a year in the 200 free, a :54.4 to a :52.9 in his 100 back, and a 2:02.0 to a 1:56.8 in the IM, and his 50 and 100 free short course times are from when he wasn’t even rested. So he will be up to the standards in no time for his collegiate career.
Then also went on to have an even better end of season meet for long course in August for the Southern Zones meet.
He isn’t a walk on he is getting his books paid for… I know him and it still bugs me that he is going to UT and he has more like a D2 School
So who are you to say what school he should go to and how would you know what he is getting it hasn’t been announced
No mention of the his grandpa ????… Not sure if poor journalism or keeping the focus on the swimmer
The ???? Was supposed to be the “hmmm” emoji
Don’t tell me it’s Bob…
I’m almost positive he doesn’t have any kids
Are you saying gays and Trans cannot have kids?
No. I’m saying that Bob Bowman doesn’t have kids, as far as I know anyway, and therefore is probably not this kid’s grandfather. Because, you know, people don’t generally have grandkids without having kids first.
His grandpa is not Bob it’s Eddie Reese
Who’s his grandpa
Eddie has a grandson called Luke Bowman, but he is younger, isn’t he?
He done growed up. I remember when Eddie used to come down to the Cypress area to watch a young summer league swimmer. This must be him.
And now I’ve realized I missed an opportunity to quote Danny Brown here.
Eddie!!!!!
Yeah BOI! HOOK EM HORNS!
