On each day of the official Olympic torch relay, carrying the Olympic flame to the Olympic cauldron in Rio de Janeiro, the Rio2016 Facbeook page is posting brilliant and spectacular images from one of the world’s unique and most beautiful landscapes. Each day until August 5th, we will bring you these stunning images.
On the 74th day of the Olympic torch relay the torch visited its final city in Paraná, Castro, and then went on to four cities in São Paulo. The torch went from the mid eastern region of Paraná in to the south western region of São Paulo, travelling over 300 km total for the day.
It began in the city of Castro, known for the picturesque Iapó River. It then continued across the border into the state of São Paulo, going to the city of Itararé. A city of just over 50,000, Itararé is known within the state for having many naturally beautiful places to visit such as waterfalls, canyons, and mountain ranges.
The torch continued its path east to the city of Itapeva, located 57 km away from Itararé. The torch continued to Capao Bonito, 60 more km east of Itapeva. From there it went 60 km east to its final destination of the day, Itapetininga. It is known as cidade das escolas, which means city of schools in Portuguese.
